Listen: Jay-Z Disses Wizard’s Player DeShawn Stevenson

Jay-Z recorded a diss song about DeShawn Stevenson in defense of his buddy Lebron James that was played at Love in D.C. this weekend (and of course made its way to the blogosphere). Click here to listen

Washington Post has the story:

Jay-Z, the Jigga Man, H-to-the-Izzo, Mr. Beyonce Knowles,
made a diss record about DeShawn Stevenson that was played at the D.C. night spot Love on Friday night, according to several witnesses. I have not heard the song or the lyrics but I was told that Jay-Z freestyled over the beat for the track, “Blow The Whistle” by rapper Too Short. The beat is hot, and if you want to know how that beat goes at least, click on this.

But anyway, witnesses at the club said that the DJ gave the microphone to Cavaliers reserve Damon Jones. Jones allegedly made some unsavory comments about Stevenson and the Wizards, according to people in attendance. And just before 2 a.m., the song was played. It was played five times from what I hear (I feel like a gossip columnist here. I really wish I was writing about basketball, people).

What was DeShawn’s reaction? He went at James.

“He says he has a lot of swag, but I don’t think that’s something to do,” Stevenson said about James. “This is basketball. I’m not worried about the song. I’m not worried about what he did. But for Damon Jones to get on the mic. And I heard he was saying foul stuff about me and stuff like that, they’re taking it beyond basketball to me.”

So apparently all this stuff started because DeShawn Stevenson called Lebron overrated and said he didn’t like him. There have been some pretty retarded non-rap beefs that spilled into music that I can think of (i.e. Timbaland vs. Scott Storch)…but this little beef between DeShawn and Lebron/Jay-Z seems even more pointless. To be honest, I don’t really follow sports much so I didn’t even know who DeShawn Stevenson is until this whole diss thing came about lol. I guess Jay must be really bored these days to take the time to record a diss track. I think it makes him look a little unprofessional considering that he is part owner of a NBA basketball team. However, my only real gripe though is that he just didn’t match the hotness of Too Short’s original “Blow The Whistle”. That song is classic (on the West Coast) but Hov didn’t bring that same energy. Oh well…hopefully these guys will get back to playing ball and leave the beef alone since it kind of makes them all look stupid.

What do you guys think of Jay-Z dissing DeShawn Stevenson? Do you think it’s fair game since DeShawn has thrown a few subliminal jabs? Shouldn’t Jay-Z be holding himself to a higher standard of professionalism in matters concerning the NBA?

New York Giants Upset the New England Patriots + What was the Best Super Bowl Ad?

Yesterday I was at the Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Caroline Kennedy, Stevie Wonder, and Maria Shriver Obama rally at UCLA (go Bruins!)…so I missed the first quarter and some change of the Super Bowl. However…it was still a great game and a total nail biter. I’m a native Bostonian, so of course I had to pull for the Patriots…but they just got outplayed yesterday. It’s too bad that they picked the biggest game of the year to totally fall apart.

Randy Moss was mostly useless throughout the game, and where in the hell was the coverage for Tom Brady? It was just disgraceful for them to let Brady get pummeled so many times…NOT “best team in history” caliber playing. On the other hand, Eli Manning came through in the clutch and threw a great pass to Plaxico Burress, who up until that point had a very underwhelming performance, to seal the victory for the Giants.

So…all in all it was a competitive game, and the Giants proved that a perfect season means very little without the championship title. Congrats Giants! But on to what is perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of the Super Bowl…the ads.

I missed a lot of ads obviously, but the funniest one I saw was the Will Ferrell ad for his new movie ”Semi Pro”. He has the same schtick for every movie, but if it ain’t broke, why fix it? The ad that tripped me out the most was the debut of Hyundai’s new car. They stated that it was roomier than a 7-Series but priced like a 3-Series. So I had to ask, who in the hell would buy a Hyundai for the same price of a BMW? As a matter of fact at the price of a 3-Series you could also buy a Benz, Lexus, and just about any other luxury brand! The ad for AMP with the guy dancing to Push It was kinda funny too.

So what do you guys think of the game? Were you pulling for a perfect Patriots season or were you hoping for an upset? Which commercial was the best one this year? Which one was the worst?

Sports News: Roy Jones beats Trinidad, Patriots & Giants will square off again for the Super Bowl

Saturday, Felix Tito Trinidad came out of retirement for a match with Roy Jones Jr. I was a little skeptical about this match, since Roy Jones got knocked the hell out in embarrassing fashion in 2 of his last 3 losses. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining the match turned out. Both guys came out and fought a great fight, but ultimately Roy was too much for Tito to overcome. Roy was hilariously entertaining with his dancing and other crazy antics, but he backed up with some strong punches…knocking Trinidad down twice. It was great to see the respect they showed for each other and they clearly enjoyed just being in the ring. A rematch would be pretty great.

Today, the final two games deciding who would be heading to the coveted Super Bowl were played. Ultimately, the Patriots proved that they deserved to be in the Super Bowl and set a record for being the first team to go undefeated for 18 games in a single season.

On the other hand, the game between the New York Giants  and Green Bay Packers was a real nail biter at the end. The Giants had a chance to seal their victory in the final seconds of the game with a field goal but Tynes just couldn’t deliver for the second time in the game. Luckily for them Webster intercepted the ball from the Packers putting the game back in the Giants’ control and giving Tynes another chance to redeem himself. His field goal sent the Giants to the Super Bowl, and the match-up is all set.

The Patriots beat the Giants a few weeks back, and I find it hard to believe that they won’t repeat their victory for the Super Bowl. However, anything can happen on any given Sunday.

What do you guys think of these match-ups? Was Roy Jones being lazy by not going for the knockout or was he just incapable of delivering that kind of blow? Are you looking forward to the Patriots/Giants rematch?

Jermain Taylor Loses to Kelly Pavlik- New Middleweight Champ; Rising Star- Andre Berto

Pavlik Champ
Taylor falls

More on Story

Damn….daaaaamn……daaaaaamn.  Whoever missed this fight on Saturday missed a great one indeed as we saw the fall of Jermain Taylor to Youngstown, Ohio’s own Kelly Pavlik in a 7th Round TKO.  I won’t say this is one of the best middleweight bouts in the history of the franchise like some of the ringside announcers were sayin but it definitely put to rest those claims that Jermain is that shyt…..which, honestly, he aint..(yo Keith, speak on this son. lol)…So anyway, it was a great fight that showed both fighter’s agility, endurance and most of all, heart!!!

Taylor served Pavlik a couple mean hooks in the 2nd round which caused Pavlick to go down but Youngstown’s own said, “nah son, nah son!!!”(okay he didnt say that). Whathe did say was, “I was hurt….but I wasn’t done.”  He gets back up and stays consistent with his jab game throwing Taylor and finds openings to lay his hard-hitting right hand crosses.  It was a lethal combination of crosses on the chin and severe uppercuts that saw the fall of a champ and the crowning of another with lowly and humble roots.  Indeed, after following the story of Pavlik, he’s almost like a modern day Balboa.  The kid has a lot of heart and has always been the underdog.

Taylor admits that his 2nd round flurries caused him to expend a lot of energy that could have been conserved and that he didn’t listen to his trainers and their advice during pivotal times in the fight.  Anyway, there is a rematch clause in the contract and I’m sure boxing fans will be lined up to see if Jermain will ether himself again or rise to the occasion and send Pavlik back to Youngstown.

Who peeped the fight? What’re your thoughts on Taylor? Was he conditioned to go up against Pavlik or do you think he’s just overly hyped by the media? Do you think Pavlik has what it takes to retain the belt for years to come or was this a one hit wonder?

P.S:

The undercard match saw the battle b/w the victor, Andre Berto and the more seasoned, David Estrada, who fought the likes of Shane Mosley in the past.  Berto’s agility, speed, and powerful combos made a mockery of Estrada.  His skill and footwork were impressive and it was exciting to watch this rising star.  What’re your thoughts of Berto? Who else noticed Dame Dash at his corner? lol….what’s that about?

Andre Berto

Oscar vs. Floyd…Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

So…Mayweather pulled out the underwhelming victory over De La Hoya on Saturday. I think it should’ve been a unanimous decision, considering that Mayweather was far more accurate than De La Hoya, but I still gotta give Oscar credit for actually doing something. What happened to the massacre that Floyd was talking all that ish about? I thought for sure this was going to be a brawl for the history books…but it was just aight. I must say that once I saw Floyd’s ol ignorant a$$ put on that sombrero, I fell out of my chair. After I saw that I felt like if for no other reason, he better win or he would be eating major crow!  Oscar was a class act though…gotta respect that!

Anyways…what did you guys think about the fight? Should Oscar have been rewarded for being more offensive and giving the fans something to watch? Or did the judges make the right call for giving the fight to the substantially more accurate Floyd? Was it a disappointment or did it live up to the hype?
