Watch: The Dream “I Luv Your Girl” Featuring Young Jeezy

The Dream has a new video for his song “I Luv Your Girl” with Young Jeezy thrown on there. I think Young Jeezy’s verse was totally unnecessary, but most R&B singers feel compelled to throw a rapper on for the sake of having one. I hate to admit it, but I love this song. I’ve been playing this joint since last year, so I’m glad to see it starting to get some pub. It looks like The Dream lost a little bit of weight and he is looking kinda cute. I expect to hear a lot more of this song in the next few weeks.

What do you guys think of the video? Do you think Young Jeezy makes the song hotter?

Watch: Chris Brown- Take You Down

Chris Brown has a new-ish (yeah I’m 3 weeks late on this) video for his song “Take You Down” and all I have to say is wow. I hope his concerts have a PG-13 (minimum) rating, because all that shirtless gyrating is a bit much for a young crowd. At any rate…I’m sure this video will appeal to his younger fans. I’m a little too grown to find  this video sexy at all lol.

What do you guys think of the video? Is this a little overboard for his young audience?

Watch: Ne-Yo “Closer”

Ne-Yo has a new video for his song “Closer”. Even though the video takes place in a typical plain sound stage, he actually managed to make it more visually interesting with the different “special” (which is probably a strong word) effects. Ne-Yo said he is planning on veering away from his strictly R&B sound by going a bit more pop and dance than usual. Right now the pop/dance music is dominating music charts so it’s a risk that might pay off. I can’t really call it if this song will be a big hit though. It came out a few weeks ago and I haven’t heard it on the radio once. I think the song’s success is really going to depend on how much the MTV crowd digs it, because I would be surprised if this goes over big with the 106 & Park crowd.

What do you guys think of the video? Is the song a hit or miss?

Watch: Rihanna- Take A Bow

Rihanna has a new video for her song “Take A Bow”. I think the song is pretty lackluster, but I like that she actually tried to do a video with an actual plot. Unfortunately, it’s hard to show much emotion and energy for a song that is so…flat. I’m sure her fans will be happy just to hear new music from her and see a new video…but I can’t imagine this winning over new people or compelling anyone to go out and buy her re-release. Click here to watch.

What do you guys think of the video? Isn’t think kind of an odd choice to as the lead single off her album re-release?

Watch: R. Kelly- Hairbraider

Aw lawd…I’m about to have a heart attack over laughing so hard at R. Kelly’s new video “Hairbraider”. He is a stanking hot mess…I mean…does he really have red streaks in his braids? lol. Then oh lawd…he brought out the gold hair with extensions! lmao…This negro has lost his damn mind. This is so hamtastic you gotta see it to believe it. One thing you gotta say about Kellz is that he is fearless and doesn’t mind looking like a clown to sell his song.

What do you guys think of this video? Can he get any more ridiculous?

Reecie Recommends: Kanye West’s Glow In The Dark Tour

Last night I finally got the opportunity to check out Kanye West’s highly anticipated “Glow In the Dark Tour”. Everybody on the site knows how much I loooove Kanye West, so you can imagine my excitement. Anyway…the concert was held at the newly opened Nokia Theater in Downtown LA (which is  the best arena venue now) and there were thousands of die hard fans. I got there just in time to miss Lupe Fiasco…so I was pleased about that. I chose to get a margarita (which was fab) instead of catching the final few songs of his act.

After Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D. performed and they were absolutely amazing! I’ve always liked them from back in their “Lapdance” days…but I couldn’t have guessed that their show would be so energetic, fun, and bad a$$. Shayne got much more shine in the concert than he usually does in their music videos which tend to focus on Pharrell, but they both did a great job of keeping the crowd entertained and on their feet. Now I’m looking forward to their new album and I had a great time rocking out to their new(-ish) track “Everyone Nose” (Click here to listen). N.E.R.D. was an excellent choice for the tour lineup.

Rihanna was next to hit the stage. I’ve never heard any of Rihanna’s albums and she has always been pretty lackluster in her tv performances…so I was interested to see if she could hold her own in such a huge venue. This may shock you but…I officially have to take back every negative word I’ve ever said about her lacking talent. She was stellar! She has a beautiful voice and she killed it on every single song. She also looked like a Black Barbie doll on stage which I thought was pretty cute. Her outfits look a lot trashier in the pictures than they do in person at the concert…so I think she catches some unfair flack about her costume choices.  Anyway…Rihanna proved that she has stage presence, star power, confidence, charisma, and a wonderful voice and she has officially converted me to a fan. Now I see why she was chosen to “co-star” in the tour…she definitely kept the Pop/R&B/Rocker bad assness going and more than held her own.

After Rihanna hit the stage it was getting late and truthfully I was starting to get tired as hell. However, knowing that Kanye was the next person to come out, the energy in the place was crazy. People were yelling at any little inkling that the show was about to start and after several false alarms…Kanye finally hit the stage at about 11PM.

Here is the thing that I loved, loved, loved about the show…this was BIGGER than a concert…it was like a super high tech production. The set, the plot, the whole setup made you feel like you were in a movie waiting to see how things would unfold. He really took the concert experience to an entirely different level than anything I’ve ever seen before. I’ve been to some incredible concerts, but none where so much was invested in creating almost an alternate universe (please excuse my hyperbole lol).  It’s totally amazing how he managed to bring so much drama to songs that we all know and love.

I won’t go into too many details in case you plan on checking out the show, because I haaate when people just give away all the juicy tidbits. Half the fun was trying to figure out what was coming next…so I will refrain from talking about what songs he performed (sidebar: the picture above is not the actual costume Kanye wore). Kanye was in top form and it was like he was the energizer bunny…he just kept going and going. With the show ending after midnight, there is no way anyone left the concert without a hoarse voice and not totally exhausted from jumping up and down and singing along all night.  I’ve seen Kanye in concert 4 other times and this was by far his best show. Don’t waste your time hoping that Jay-Z, Common, John Legened, or any of his other superstar rap comrades are going to show up, because it is so not about that. His show isn’t about being the flashiest (with money, cars, or rapper friends)…it was about creating a musical dramatization and the crowd loved it. He put on an incredible show and concert experience…and he proved that Hip Hop can be art and that he is one of the most innovative (I would say THE most innovative) Hip Hop/Music stars.

So…if you get the chance to check out Kanye West’s Glow In The Dark tour, don’t pass up the opportunity! Even if you have to get nose bleed seats this is NOT a concert to be missed.

Have you checked out the tour? What did you think of the lineup? What other tours would you recommend people check out?

Hate it or Love It: Usher “Love In This Club Remix” featuring Beyonce and Lil Wayne

Usher outdid himself with “Love In This Club Remix” featuring Beyonce and Lil Wayne. You don’t have to hear it to know it’s going to be the hotness with that lineup. He totally switches up the production, but ups the grown and sexy factor. Beyonce is a total upgrade on the track and her and Usher have so much chemistry in their duet. Once you throw in Lil Wayne who adds his innovative flow to the track you end up with pure fire. Hot, hot, hot! Click here to listen

Listen: Mariah Carey “Bye Bye Remix” Featuring Jay-Z

Mariah Carey has a remix to “Bye Bye” featuring Jay-Z. I really like the flavor that Jay-Z adds to the track. I think this version of the song sounds way better than the original…but still the content is not my cup of tea right now. Like I said before, I’m sure people who are going through the loss of a loved one appreciate the message and the inspiration of the song. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of the remix? Is this better than the original?

Watch: Alicia Keys- Teenage Love Affair

Alicia Keys has a new video for her song “Teenage Love Affair”. She channel’s the Spike Lee classic “School Daze” to come up with a really fun and interesting video. School Daze is one of those Black classics that is like a rite of passage when you go to college. There are several things that I can’t help but find ironic. First, it’s pretty funny that after her comments about the government creating the term gangsta rap to get Black folks to kill each other she comes out with a video that portrays militant Black men. Second, it’s funny seeing Derek Luke portraying a militant/Black Panther/Afro-centric character when in real life he isn’t even married to a Black woman. I’m not knocking him at all for that (more power to him)…but like I said just a wee bit ironic. Anyway…I like the video and I see that she chose a single that she could have more fun with than her other deeply emotional singles.

What do you guys think of the video? Do you think this was a good choice for a single?

Upgrade or Downgrade: Raheem DeVaughn “Customer Remix” featuring R. Kelly

R. Kelly is invading everybody’s tracks these days! Now he has hopped on one of my favorite Raheem DeVaugn joints (cop that Love Behind the Melody if you haven’t already) “Customer”. R. Kelly has perfected (sometimes to the point of absurdity) the freaky lyrical metaphors so it’s no surprise that he adds some major hotness to this track. The end is overkill though and his commentary kinda kills it. The Raheem version still wins over this one, but I like Kells’ flavor for the most part. If there is a R. Kelly mixtape floating around I need to get my hands on it asap. Click here to listen
