Love Is In The Air: And the Hottest Couple in the Game Is….

Lots of love is definitely in the air this spring…I don’t remember a time when there was so much Black Star Power Coupledom going on. I’m digging this new relationship/commitment trend, since I think the whole glorified playa/mack thing is hella played out. So…I decided to dedicate a post to the lovebirds. First up…

Nelly and Ashanti have kept a really low “couple” profile…and they definitely seem more like a publicity couple than the real thing…but they still look cute together. They were spotted out the other night having dinner.

Rihanna and Chris Brown were spotted getting extra cozy at KFC of all places! I think these two make a super cute couple, and they are definitely the hottest young couple on the scene.

Jay-Z and Beyonce (aka Mr. & Mrs. Carter) were partying it up a few days ago at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club. I’m wondering if and when the wedding pics are going to come out and and if when they will start wearing their wedding rings.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon stepped out in their first public appearance as a couple/husband and wife last night. They actually make a cute couple and they definitely take the crown for the most talked about celebrity couple right now. Everyone wants to know…is it real? Is it fake? I read the People mag article and they sounded head over heels in love. I’m a sucker for love, so I hope for the best for both of them.

So, who takes the hottest couple in the game crown for now?

Take our poll: Who is the hottest couple in the game?

Gossip Notes: Did Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Get Married? (Update: Kinda Confirmed)

Here is the story:

“A source close to Nick Cannon has confirmed exclusively to Latina.com that Cannon and Mariah Carey are married! The couple wed yesterday in a small ceremony on an island and it was “very impulsive,” according to our source. The wedding was attended by a few close friends of the couple, including Da Brat. “

Hmmm…Nick Cannon seems to consistently find himself in these engagement/marriage rumors. Last year after All Star Weekend, the gossip ran rampant that he eloped with Selita Banks and that turned out to be false. So…I’m taking this one with a grain of salt. It seems a little unbelievable that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have never been photographed together hanging out yet they’re tight enough to get married. But…stranger things have happened. I truly hope that Mariah hasn’t reduced herself to some lame publicity stunt which she clearly doesn’t need to sell a massive amount of records. IF they are in fact married though…then my congrats go out to them.

Update from Us Magazine:

Nick Cannon’s family has confirmed that the 27-year-old actor has wed singer Mariah Carey, 39. Family member Linda Cannon told E! that Nick called her with the good news. “Yes, we know. He called us and told us all about it,” she said. “We are happy for him. If that is what he wants, then we are happy for him.” She added, “I’m not going to give you any details, but we are happy for him.”

Hmm…”if that is what he wants”…that’s an odd statement to make and kind of adds credibility to the claim that is was a very impulsive decision by the two to get hitched. I’m still suspicious that they really got married, especially considering that they got “married” in the Bahamas. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pull a Tracey and Eddie and never legally finalize their marriage in the US. However…like I said earlier, if this is really a genuine relationship and not just another crazy publicity stunt then more power to them and I hope it lasts.

Do you think Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon got hitched? Or is this another manufactured publicity stunt relationship?

Listen: Jay-Z Disses Wizard’s Player DeShawn Stevenson

Jay-Z recorded a diss song about DeShawn Stevenson in defense of his buddy Lebron James that was played at Love in D.C. this weekend (and of course made its way to the blogosphere). Click here to listen

Washington Post has the story:

Jay-Z, the Jigga Man, H-to-the-Izzo, Mr. Beyonce Knowles,
made a diss record about DeShawn Stevenson that was played at the D.C. night spot Love on Friday night, according to several witnesses. I have not heard the song or the lyrics but I was told that Jay-Z freestyled over the beat for the track, “Blow The Whistle” by rapper Too Short. The beat is hot, and if you want to know how that beat goes at least, click on this.

But anyway, witnesses at the club said that the DJ gave the microphone to Cavaliers reserve Damon Jones. Jones allegedly made some unsavory comments about Stevenson and the Wizards, according to people in attendance. And just before 2 a.m., the song was played. It was played five times from what I hear (I feel like a gossip columnist here. I really wish I was writing about basketball, people).

What was DeShawn’s reaction? He went at James.

“He says he has a lot of swag, but I don’t think that’s something to do,” Stevenson said about James. “This is basketball. I’m not worried about the song. I’m not worried about what he did. But for Damon Jones to get on the mic. And I heard he was saying foul stuff about me and stuff like that, they’re taking it beyond basketball to me.”

So apparently all this stuff started because DeShawn Stevenson called Lebron overrated and said he didn’t like him. There have been some pretty retarded non-rap beefs that spilled into music that I can think of (i.e. Timbaland vs. Scott Storch)…but this little beef between DeShawn and Lebron/Jay-Z seems even more pointless. To be honest, I don’t really follow sports much so I didn’t even know who DeShawn Stevenson is until this whole diss thing came about lol. I guess Jay must be really bored these days to take the time to record a diss track. I think it makes him look a little unprofessional considering that he is part owner of a NBA basketball team. However, my only real gripe though is that he just didn’t match the hotness of Too Short’s original “Blow The Whistle”. That song is classic (on the West Coast) but Hov didn’t bring that same energy. Oh well…hopefully these guys will get back to playing ball and leave the beef alone since it kind of makes them all look stupid.

What do you guys think of Jay-Z dissing DeShawn Stevenson? Do you think it’s fair game since DeShawn has thrown a few subliminal jabs? Shouldn’t Jay-Z be holding himself to a higher standard of professionalism in matters concerning the NBA?

Awww Kanye & Alexis Call It Quits

People has the story:

Rapper Kanye West and his fiancée of a year and a half, designer Alexis Phifer have broken off their engagement, Phifer confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“It’s always sad when things like this end, and we remain friends,” Phifer tells PEOPLE. “I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavors. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”

Phifer was spotted on the red carpet sans her engagement ring at an “Evenings in Vogue” event on Thursday night in New York, where her clothing line, Ghita, was featured.

“They’d been having problems,” a pal of West’s says. “Kanye is really focused on his show; he’s putting everything into the show right now. Alexis is a nice girl, but Kanye has been going through a rough time. They hit a rough patch and for now they’ve split.”

Awww…Kanye and Alexis were one of my fav couples. They have had an on again off again type of relationship, so perhaps one day they will reconcile.

What do you guys think of the breakup? Who takes the top Hip Hop couple crown now- Nas & Kelis or Jay-Z & Beyonce?

More Bitchassness from 50 Cent: Dissing Alicia Keys and Still Throwing Young Buck Under the Bus

50 Cent once again is proving why he is the King of the Bitchassness.

Here is the story:

When it comes to “Gangsta rap” 50 Cent doesn’t play around.

He’s not happy about comments Alicia Keys was quoted as making in a recent interview with Blender, even though the R&B songstress later said the quotes were “misrepresented” by the magazine.

“‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other,” Keys was quoted as saying. “‘Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.”

“I don’t like Alicia Keys no more though … the same reason why I said that I don’t like Oprah Winfrey,” 50 Cent told The Showbuzz. “I’m prejudice(d). I don’t like people who don’t like me. If you don’t like the content that I write because of my experiences; I am being who I am when I am writing it. I fall into that ‘label’ as far as you considering artists creating ‘Gangsta music,’ we fall into that.

I despise 50 Cent for so many reasons, but was it really necessary for him to go after Alicia Keys? He is just such a despicable person and a bully. Picking on a woman makes him look like a punk ass and I’m beyond sick of him. Regardless of whether Alicia’s conspiracy is true or not, I don’t think it is possible to make a credible argument that “gangsta rap” glorifying crime, violence, etc. has been even remotely positive for the Black community or for society as a whole. So a few dozen Black men got rich off of peddling rhymes about killing people and dealing drugs…but at what cost? Is perpetuating and even encouraging the stereotype of being a thug an acceptable byproduct for their wealth and fame? My answer is absolutely not…so 50 Cent’s stupid ass can cry me a river with all that “I don’t like people who don’t like me” b.s. Hopefully 50’s days in the business are numbered. His horredously awful clothing line has already been shut down, so I can only hope his music career is next.

Anyway…proving once again that he has no loyalty to people he is supposedly cool with, he is still talking junk about Young Buck and putting his business on blast.

Young Buck Kicked out of G-Unit

MTV has the story:

50 Cent announced Monday (April 7) that estranged G-Unit member Young Buck is no longer a part of the four-man crew but would still be signed to the company as a solo artist.

“You can take this as official notice,” Fif told New York radio station Hot 97’s morning-show hosts, DJ Envy, Miss Jones and Michael Shawn. Then he broke the news.

“You can look at that and see that’s Game all the way,” he said, comparing Buck’s actions in recent months — which included speaking out about friction within the ranks — to those of another former G-Unit member. “I was giving him the benefit of the doubt then.” Game began freewheeling with his comments and relationships with other rappers much to the dismay of Fif, and the Compton rapper was famously booted from G-Unit in 2005.

Just last week, however, Fif told MTV News things were better between him and Buck.

He mentioned the Tennessee rapper’s penchant for making off-the-cuff remarks publicly and then retracting them in private. Fif said the tension was being blown out of proportion, but he also made comparisons between Buck and Game during that interview. He said he thought the Southern lyricist spoke out in order to validate himself.

“I think you have to give them something to blow it out of proportion,” 50 said. “Buck did that. I think that what he was saying, in order to validate himself as a man, he feels he has to go against what I’m doing, similar to some of the things we’ve seen from Game. … [But then] he’ll back off of it, when we’re in direct conversation. When he’s out in public, he’ll say something. They’re like my younger brothers, but they’ll do sh– for attention. They’ll do things, then when I look like, ‘What are you doing?’ They’ll be like, ‘Oh, nah, because you was doing this. … Because you didn’t call me when you were on the international tour.’ I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me? You didn’t call neither, so what does that mean?’ “

Buck’s role in the crew had notably diminished as of late. The rapper had appeared with less frequency on G-Unit mixtapes and wasn’t even pictured on the cover of some projects. Two weeks ago, when 50 played new G-Unit tracks for MTV News at his Connecticut mansion, Buck was the only member of the crew missing.

In a recent interview for the May issue of XXL, Buck talked about his candor and presence in G-Unit. He said that at times he feels the need to get things off his chest, but that he’s never disloyal to 50. Buck insisted that the crew has an understanding. He claimed he initially tried to address his concerns with 50 directly, but when he couldn’t get a hold of the G-unit leader he began speaking out, knowing that Fif would eventually contact him.

“It’s an understanding that we have as a crew,” he told the magazine. “Not just with 50, but as a family. Everybody has had they situations, but everybody handles that sh– a little different. ‘Cause we all individual men. For me, it’s just about gettin’ sh– off my chest and airing the sh– out. But as far as being disloyal to my n—as, it’s far from that.

Well this certainly doesn’t come as a shock to me that Young Buck has officially gotten the boot…however I think it’s possible that this is just a publicity stunt. 50 is known for throwing people under the bus to stir up controversy for an upcoming project…so I wouldn’t put it past him to contrive a fake ouster. Nonetheless…Young Buck has been pretty vocal in his criticisms about 50 Cent over the past several years and even went on the radio and claimed that he hasn’t received any royalty checks for his music. The way 50 has responded to those criticism by basically making Young Buck look like a crybaby or a loser freeloader I’m sure didn’t help. 50 Cent has alienated so many people throughout his career that pretty soon he won’t have anybody left in his corner except wack ass Tony Yayo.

I wonder if we will hear a Game and Young Buck diss record anytime soon lol.

What do you guys think of Young Buck getting kicked out of G-Unit? Aren’t they kind of irrelevant anyway? Is 50 Cent ruthless and willing to cast anyone aside or are Young Buck (and The Game) just disloyal?

Polow da Don exposed making Usher’s “Love in the Club”?

This has been floating around the internet for a couple of days, but I just it was interesting to see a music fanatic with an apple computer re-make Usher’s “Love in the Club” with pre-set/pre-made sounds in GarageBand - which is a FREE program.

Polow da Don states that:
“That’s not where I got them from, but they’re definitely in there,” Polow said of the sounds used in “Love in This Club,” telling SOHH he had yet to view the YouTube video. “There’s this keyboard I have that a lot of sounds come in.”

Polow noted that the song contains a live bassline and that Robin Thicke was enlisted to play piano on the record.

“If a ten-year-old can make ‘Love in This Club’ and save Usher’s career and make black women want to f*ck him again, after they was done with him for getting married, then sh*t he’s a genius just like me,” Polow said. “I also wrote the hook - that’s not a preset.”

Hey Polow - the writing is on the wall and you were exposed. But rather than being an asshole about his implication of saving Usher’s career (umm…wasn’t Confession is LAST album?), he should have just been cocky about his production skills. Dude - you made a hot beat for an already established artist - you did not save his career. All Polow had to do was quote Timbaland and say something like “it doesn’t make if you have the most expensive equipment in the world or the cheapest, I can make a hot beat, regardless because I’m a dope producer.”

What do you think of Polow da Don getting exposed? Should Usher get a refund for this 6 figure beat made with a FREE program? Would you be upset if you were Usher? Does this make you like the song less or more? I know we all think Polow is an asshole….

People Mag Reports: Jay-Z & Beyonce are Married!

Here is the story:

After years of speculation, singer Beyoncé Knowles wed her longtime boyfriend, rapper Jay-Z, on Friday, a friend of the couple’s tells PEOPLE.

Though there is no official confirmation, the friend says, “It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair – close friends and family.”

The ceremony was followed by a lavish party at the rapper’s Tribeca apartment that drew Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew, her sister Solange, her Destiny’s Child mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple’s friend Gwyneth Paltrow.

DJ Cassidy, a favorite of Jay-Z, was hired to spin. “Cassidy mentioned a week ago that he was really excited for Jay Z and Beyoncé’s wedding party to happen,” says another source.

Early Friday morning, workers erected a white tent atop the building in Tribeca, where Jay-Z owns a penthouse apartment. Not long after, an SUV carrying what seemed to be AV equipment arrived, followed by deliveries of party rentals and flowers.

A source tells PEOPLE that Amy’s Orchids was hired to provide 50,000 to 60,000 white orchid blooms from Thailand for a “big party.” At the apartment, waiters were seen practicing their service.

How exciting! These two managed to pull of the most top secret yet high profile celebrity wedding in a minute. It’s nice to see Black love between two very successful and prominent people…and it is even better to see a couple getting married. There are so many people on this “we don’t need a marriage license to solidify our bond” type bs, that it is refreshing to see people that still value marriage. I can’t wait to see the pics from the wedding and see what Beyonce was wearing. I’m sure it was a beautiful and special ocassion so I’m definitely happy for the couple. I hope they have a long, happy, and loving marriage. Hopefully more people will see that marriage is a wonderful thing and stop trying to be players until they’re 45-50.

What do you guys think of these two getting married? WIth all the fake engagements of the past year, isn’t cool to see someone actually make it to the altar?

Beyonce and Jay-Z Reportedly Apply For Marriage License

People magazine is reporting that Beyonce and Jay-Z applied for a marriage license in New York. They will have 60 days to get married…so if this is true there could be a huge Hip Hop wedding on the horizon. But then again…today is April’s Fools Day so I’m kind of taking this one with a grain of salt until more evidence comes out.

What do you guys think of Beyonce and Jay-Z making it official after 6 years of dating?

Oh Hell Naw: Remy Ma and Papoose to Be Married In Prison

MTV has the story:

Remy Ma’s conviction on assault Thursday certainly was emotional. The Bronx rapper cried as the judge ordered her to be held in prison until her April 23 sentencing.

And now, Brooklyn rapper Papoose — long-rumored to be her paramour — has confirmed to MTV News that he and Remy are, in fact, a couple and had plans to marry next month.

Pap said the two are moving forward with their nuptials despite Ma’s predicament and are making arrangements to marry in prison.

“We always wanted to keep our personal lives personal, so that’s why we never went public with our relationship,” he wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. “Right now, I just feel like she gotta live through me. Yes, we were scheduled to be married on a yacht April 27th. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are now making arrangements to be married in prison.”

The couple rebutted rumors earlier in the year when New York radio personality Egypt reported that the two would wed. The next day, Papoose told media outlets the reports were false. He shied away from the relationship question in spite of the affection he showed the former Terror Squad star in lyrics.

“Remy look good in person, just like she do in the magazines/ So I’mma stay close to Miss Martin like Dr. King,” he spit on “Bonnie N Clyde,” a mixtape collaboration between the two.

Hmmmmmm…you know what I think about this? I think Papoose must be on the Down Low. What other reason would a younger man be willing to marry Remy Ma (who already looks like a man) who is going to be in jail for up to 25 years? If that ain’t a beard situation I don’t know what the hell is. The whole situation is hella suspect! There are too many damn fish in the sea to spend your prime years being tied down with someone locked up behind bars and like Tina Turner said “What’s love got to do with it?”

But anyway…let’s assume he’s not gay, does anybody really believe he is going to stay faithful to her? Man you got to be kidding me. No matter how you slice and dice it this is really some ignorant shit.

Oh yeah and to his comment “due to circumstances beyond our control”- NEGRO PLEASE! Remy Ma SHOT someone, that was in HER control. Even if you give her the benefit of the doubt and say it was an accident, she did not have to carry a gun at all and she didn’t have to confront the woman in the manner she did that made it possible for the woman to get shot. That was a f*&king choice so spare us the martyr act.

What do you guys think of this whole situation? Doesn’t it have suspect written all over it?
