Thumbs Up or Down: Madonna “Beat Goes On” featuring Kanye West and Pharrell

Madonna has a new track called “Beat Goes On” featuring Kanye West and Pharrell. I’ve always like Madonna for her ability to reinvent herself and stay current regardless of what musical sound was the hottest. Now she seems to be trying to link up more with Hip Hop artists(in her own very Pop-ish way). I’m kind of digging this song…I think Pharrell is hot on the track and of course I love Kanye. I think this song allows Madonna to shine much more than “4 Minutes” which was just another take on the same Timbaland/Timberlake song. I give this a thumbs up…you gotta give Madonna props, she is legendary. Click here to listen

Thumbs up or thumbs down?

this is kinda hot, the other tracks I have heard are very pedestrian and boring. this at least has a few light and shade, and somewhat of a narrative which makes it an interesting listen. however, in saying all that, seeing M jump on the bandwagon with other artists is still a bit desperate in my books.

ok so ive been listening to the leaked madonna album this morning—- my favorite so far is “heartbeat”. “the beat goes on” is ok but not my fav— i have to admit i aint that mad at this madonna (considering ive never bought or listened to a madonna album). i liking it better than both janet’s and Mariah’s album— but that credit goes to pharell and timbaland. but the one thing that kinda irks me is how this is being marketed as a hip hop album, just because you get a black dude to do the beat doesnt make it hip hop (or RNB in reference to Justing timberlake)

Oh yeah pharell totally janked Baltimore club style music and gave that shit to madonna (the end part bass line and chant of “incredible” and the breakdown of “give it 2 me”.

Madonna maybe working with the biggest producer in rap but I don’t think she is making a typical HipHop or R&B album. She is leaning toward dance music kind of similar to what Timberlake, Fergie, Britney Spears, Janet, and Gwen have done. As for her album being marketed as hiphop. I think just for the sake of marketing they just wanted to put her new album in the category of hiphop just to make it easy to promote. Obviously her album isn’t straight hiphop.

I notice on the internet there is a fued between Madonna fans Mariah Carey fans and Madonna fans and Janet Jackson fans. It kind of remind me if the fued between Britney and Christina.

Sorry! But Madonna will never be considered an hip hop artist in my book!

Am not trying to knock the woman or anything but she needs to stick to her kind of music!
And she could never beat Mariah or my girl Janet Jackson.

Pss y all these artists now adays trying to be considered hip hop or r an b artists nowadays beats me.
And just because they have a black artist promote them, write for them,or sing on their tracks doesn’t mean that they are.

I’ve been busy mr honarable, but I’ll write that thing up when I have the strength to.haven’t forgotten.
    Love 4 u Shaffer!

First, this is a dance/urban album, not a RnB/Hip Hop one, so if people are making this claim they obviously haven’t listened to more than a couple songs. It’s just good marketing people (which seems to be working since her first single is blowing up the charts, US and otherwise). Second, you’re talking about madonna as if she’s a flash in the pan artist that would never be able to compete with Janet or Mariah, which is ridiculous seeing as she’s been in the music business a hell of a long time. I commend madonna in her attempt to step up her game and come with something fresh this time around, something I cannot say about Mariah, who’s consistently making mediocre albums, and Janet, who not only doesn’t have the best singing voice but doesn’t seem to give her all in her albums anymore(not saying Janet and Mariah are lackluster in comparison, but trying to throw in another aspect into the mix).

As far as the Madonna/Janet, Madonna/Mariah feuds have gone, they all have come far in their careers and deserve a certain amount of respect. I cannot see for the life of me why they all can’t be good at what they do. Plus, the posters on those blogs sound really ignorant and stupid in their arguments. lol

As far as this song goes, I really like it. Not as much as Miles Away and Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, it’s definitely a good song.

  12. 12 ddot April 21, 2008 at 3:24 pm

this is actually a different beat, and lyrics but the same hook.

its good to hear a neptunes beat…havent heard one in a while

  13. 13 jamaican woman April 21, 2008 at 4:53 pm

    Shirley;
I do agree with u in some aspect about Mariah!
    (Sorry Viciuzarban)

Some of are songs are begining to sound the same. They all seem to talk about the same thing, with the exception of her latest single(bye bye) which I thought was very good.It was real.
Something almost every individual in this world could
    relate to.(Death)

And as for Janet, just remember that she has a lot of things on her plate at the moment. Not that am using that as an excuse in no way.I
Understand that her last few albums weren’t that good but I believe that in time Janet, will pick herself up out of the slump she’s in and get back to her rightful place on top!

But in comparison to Madonna,Mariah and Janet is way better!
Their songs are better.Their voices are way better too!Especially Mariahs.

Madonna cannot and will never be able to hold a candle to Mariah and Janet. She is not good enough to me.Talent wise or other!

And yes, people will always bye Madonnas albums because people love her a lot fr those international countries.
To me Madonna is just an over-rated sexually explicit artist with no sense of well being! Sorry….

    Love u Shaffer Smith
(Ur the most talented of all)

  14. 14 viciuzurban April 21, 2008 at 5:34 pm

lol wat u sorry for…debate is healthy in my book! nah ur the crazy one jw!

  15. 15 viciuzurban April 21, 2008 at 5:47 pm

i dunno what writtens on the blogs but i like to find out…IMO its funny the type of artist madonna has transformed herself into…i mean a lot of dance producers (stuart price namely) in her circle werent not too keen with this direction and i mean it stinks…she hasnt really tried and tested this market, so it may do her good or do her bad, some may argue the risks involved and the challenge she is taking head on…plus if u listen to the lyrics of most of the songs on the new lp its quite funny seeing it come out of the mouth of someone who is so conversative on the one hand, yet artistically the opposite. i understand the dictomy right here, and sure u can be both but u cant be doing one thing and then saying another- i mean what is the real reason behind her departure from guy ritchie, they both have 2 kids together, it doesnt make sense to me - maybe someone can elaborat on this. case in point - “candy shop” - come on into my store, i got candy galore, dont pretend ur not hungry, ive seen it before, i got turkish delight and baby so much more/i need to plenty of heat/i be your one stop candy shop, everything, that i got/lollipop, have some more/
    - dance 2night ft. jt - dont care about nothin, ive fallen for your lovin/u dont have to be rich or famous to be good/u just got to get more and more/than you ever have before/and you got move fast and fast/ if u want this good thing to end/do it/let me turn u on/do it/now we in our zone/do you want to take it futher/are u a one trick pony/ive heard it all before/dont spoil this moment/talk is cheap/u dont have to be beautiful to be understood

compare with kylie minogue, i ride and die with this artist. although i would have liked to see her experiment more with the rnb, she understands her niche and what works.

  16. 16 jamaican woman April 21, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Viciuzarban,u are truly more crazier than me! lol

Kylie Minogue is wack! Thank goodness she’s not experimenting with
    r n b.
All we need is another wana b r n b
    artist with no flavor what’s so-ever! Sorry…..

    Shaffer,counting down the days….

  17. 17 viciuzurban April 21, 2008 at 8:55 pm

lmao wanna be nah she aint no wannabe she’s a megastar popstar, artist with no flava huh i guess u never checked her she stays true to herself and her craft start out start off with “fever” & “body language” and let me know what u think.

  18. 18 jamaican woman April 21, 2008 at 11:10 pm

    Aw?
Anyways I really don’t think she is all that at all
    Viciuzarban!
    She’s wack,am sorry!
Ur girl,Mariah is way better than her!
    That I can admit.

And am not interested in her music, either!
I hope she sticks to it and don’t come knocking on hip hop or r n b’s door for that matter!

    Sorry Viciuzarban!
(Thanks for sticking up for my boo in the 50 cents coment section, appreciated)

    U wr…..weren’t u?

Ps love ur baldness Shaffer!am being real,I think ur dam sexy…..

  19. 19 viciuzurban April 21, 2008 at 11:46 pm

she only experimented it because she was trying to crack the Us market which has alluded her for all so long…she’s done well on the dance charts but not mainstream…u should check her out i bet ull change ur mind…very much dance orientated stuff like the direction ur baldy shaffer is going with his next album…no mariah’s not my girl, i dont know her personally, i just write about what i like and what i see as immediate in the first instance. thoughts are just that random, pure and true. there’s not hidden malice or bad intentions, they are just what u think about on a daily basis. HM is about bringing new music the masses and having a place where people can exchange ideas, thoughts, music styles on a daily basis and i thank yall for that.

    ahem *gets off podium*

  20. 20 viciuzurban April 21, 2008 at 11:48 pm

Viciuzarban,I wasn’t trying to be rude when I said that Mariah is ur girl!
    Its a New York slang/ saying .

    Its just a saying yo
And by the way let me just ask u this question:

Am a nitey! I work the graveyard shift.
Anyways I’ll give kiley a listen ok.
Ul probably be right about her but I’ll have to c!

Anyways I love my boo but I have to be honest and say that his first album was my all time favorite ever!
Dam! That” sexy love” love song that he sang is my favorite so far.The video too.

The direction Ne-yo is going in is not bad at all but I can’t wait until he drops another “sexy love”.He’s so dam sexy when he sings like that.

Anyways I’ll check back later to c ur response to my coment,if u have any. Stay sweet!
