Speak on It: Making the Band 4 Finale Recap & Performances

Last night the season finale aired of Making the Band 4 and it was quite entertaining. The first hour was a regular episode that had a little bit of drama between Q and Dawn, because he was dancing suggestively with several girls while she was several feet away. Now…I’ve been in a similar situation so I gotta side with Dawn on how she handled the situation. She basically told him that she doesn’t care what he does so if he feels bad then that is his own guilty conscious speaking. My situation was a bit different where I had to check my man and let him know that if he wanted to be dancing with girls all up in my face then he better be prepared to watch me dance with guys…needless to say we never had that beef after that convo.

Anyway…Q did some ear hustling (which was pretty wack) and heard Dawn talking about the situation with the other DK chicks and let his inner bitcha$$ness run free. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to guess who was fanning the flames with his sh!t talking…yep, King of the Bitcha$$ness Robert. Once Q calmed down and came to his senses he made nice with Dawn and all was right again in lover’s land.

The rest of the episode was filled with their radio appearances and general smack talking. The second hour was a reunion/recap kind of deal with performances from Danity Kane , Day 26, and Donnie. I would’ve preferred 2 DK performances rather than 2 Day 26 performances but oh well. Mike was looking pretty chunky again and neither Robert nor Brian were close to 6 pack status. However, Willie was looking good and Q is adorable.

Q was drooling over Dawn and even decided to publicly declare his affection for her by claiming her then giving her a big kiss (aaaaaawwwwwwwww). Robert’s ex Junebug cleared the air about the whole myspace blow up betweenRobert and D. Woods; and Robert asked D. Woods for an apology (damn does he ever stop whining?).

Diddy revealed that Danity Kane has the #1 album in the country…which doesn’t surprise me at all. When I went to buy it on Tuesday it was sold out! I bought it on Saturday and I’ve been playing it out ever since. Finally, the big announcement that Diddy had to make is that Danity Kane, Day 26, and Donnie will all be touring together over the next few months and it will all be captured on Making the Band 5. I wonder if he’ll throw Cheri Dennis a bone and let her open up for them.

Watch Danity Kane- Damaged

Watch Day 26- Got Me Going

Watch Donnie- Take You There feat. Diddy

What do you guys think of the finale? Are you happy that Dawn and Q stuck together? Do you think Day 26 will enjoy the same success as DK with their debut album? Which song do you hear on the radio more- “Damaged” or “Got Me Going”? (I’ve been hearing Damaged on every station out here) Who had the best performance?

I am real suprised on how you, of all peeople, didn’t speak on Donnie’s WACK-ASS performance. What a sorry excuse for a single, much less a sorry excuse for a Justin Timberlake impersonation. The song is wack, the vocals are wack, the beat is wack… Donnie is just becoming waacked out! I WAS HYPED OVER THIS WHITE BOY WHEN HE DID THAT SHIT WITH 7! Ugly ass bitch. He makes me mad.

And so does Diddy… selling T-Shirts, makin money any way he can… If DK is #1 why does he gotta subject himself to sellin slogan t-shirts? He’s a mess. Damn I cringe when I see what BadBoy has subjected itself to. I wonder how much airplay DK would be getting if they wern’t on TV. UGH don’t expect Day26 to blow up. They are just a sorry excuse for a 112… and DK on that PCD hype. I have to admit though, their new CD slaps! =]

lol…you know what, Donnie’s performance was an afterthought so I didn’t even think about dissing it. I like Donnie, but you’re right his performance was not the hotness.

However, as far as DK goes their music is hot and I don’t think that being on TV is the driving force of their success. They have the right formula for the market right now and more uptempo dance songs are what is selling. I like both of their albums and I don’t think you can compare them to PCD because they all have talent.

I enjoyed the finale except the display of bitc*as*ness by Q. I just really didn’t understand how he turned that situation between Dawn into an issue about Danity Kane dogging out Day26…maybe I’m just slow, but I just didn’t get the connection.
I did enjoy Danity Kane’s performance the most, they killed it! As for Day26 it’s just something about grown men dancing around in black leather that disturbs me. Donnie was ok, but if he wants to make it on something other than his looks he needs to get his vocals AND dancing together.

I think it would be naive to say that a major part of DK’s success doesn’t come from them being on Making The Band with Sean Combs. And “driving force”? C’mon, they would not even BE a force had it not been for the force that was MTV behind them. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved what I saw on TV… Dawn, Aubrey… I love those girls & what they bring to the table. You’re right, their CD is hot, but they would have gotten just as much attention as did the girl group “Dream” did (which was little to none) if it wasn’t for the extreme marketting strategies of MTV & Diddy.

I’ll tell you right now, I wouldn’t have even looked at their first CD if I wasn’t drawn to it by what I saw on the TV show.

And you made an interesting point about today’s music industry… Dance music is whatsup… this is the new era of Disco babyyyyyyy…

MTV can make or break the release of a CD… If you don’t believe me, What about when MTV refused to play Janet’s videos on their station? I suggest you listen to the masterpiece that was Janet Jackson’s “20Y.O.” The one that many people failed to pick up on. That CD tanked… but as soon as MTV allowed Janet’s videos back on their rotation, all of a sudden the clouds opened up and the light shun down upon Janet’s follow-up album “Discipline.” She made it to #1. As far as I’m concerned this CD is not as good as the one from last year, so of course how you market yourself is going to drive the career far more than the material will.

You want to see the sucess of an artist? Look at the artists who don’t even market themselves and get their shit to #1. *Ahem* Usher. He blew me away with how he reached #1 with his new song and didn’t even have to put out a video or cover-art with his face on it. I didn’t think much of it, but he just has blue speakers as his cover-art. Genious. He is showing Chris Brown and Ne-Yo that he doesn’t even need his face out there to get him to #1, he just needs his name stamped on some song and the fans will come.

I think as I get older I am starting to see the legends of our time. The Contemp. R&B singers of the 90’s were truely the driving force of that generation. All those slow cuts!!!! R&B is evolving again, but I think we have yet to see the final product.

Lol Mike! Step awaaay from the dollar menu!

The Q/Dawn club situation is a great example of not letting something small blow up into something bigger. He was obviously DRUNK as you could tell by his reaction to seeing how he looked hahahah…You can just tell that when he heard Dawn talkin shit about him being young he was really really hurt. i like how they let water under the bridge be under the bridge.

I was dissapointed in ALL of the performances. is it just me or does brian need NOT TO BE SINGING LEAD. Robert’s getting fat. I thionk the boys need a lot more polish, but artist development nowadays isn’t like it used to be when an artist would be signed and then work 3 years before releasing an album…

In other observation…the whole bitchassness “movement” is sooo wack to me.

  7. 7 Reecie March 25, 2008 at 9:27 am

Ryan…I certainly wasn’t saying that being on MTV/Bad Boy does not have it’s advantages…however, regardless of who is behind them if their music is wack it would be curtains. The fact is, they make the kind of music people want to hear, they’re all talented, and they have great personalities that makes people fans of them as a group. So what I’m saying is…don’t marginalize what they are bringing to the table and just chop it up to “well they’re on MTV so of course they’re gonna go platinum”.

Anyway…as far as Janet Jackson’s album sales being hurt by MTV…I wouldn’t go so far as to say that. People just haven’t had the same level of interest in her that they have had in the past. 20 Y.O. was a cool album, but Discipline is waaaaaay better. I own both and I Discipline is just a hotter album. I think MTV realized that Janet is a legend and that they were hurting themselves more than they were hurting her.

ovenjockey…I think he needs to step away from the 4 grilled cheese sandwiches lol.

I think Robert was weaker as a lead than Brian. He just ANNOYS me…so that’s a big reason why I haven’t felt compelled to listen to their album yet. I’m not a big fan of his voice or Mike’s to be honest. But as far the whole bitcha$$ness thing…I looove that word! It’s like a whole sentence wrapped in one neat package.

Reecie. I feel you on that.

  9. 9 Katherine March 25, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Danity Kane-Love them. It’s so easy to forget that they’re a group formed through a t.v. show because they gel so well as a group and on a personal level. The fact that they have a show is just an added bonus, it’s great to see their growth..they are that “It” girl group right now and the fact that they made it to album #2 and people are still interested shows that it’s more than a gimmick, you can’t fool America either people like it or they don’t..

Donnie-needs work, he has potential, he just needs lots of practice performing and being entertaining

Day 26-yawn..they just don’t do it for me, I don’t mind watching them on the show, but they just don’t seem like a group to me, from their style to their music..I’m just not feeling it..Diddy should take Willie and Q and start over..

I dunno, could any of them people even win American Idol.
    Donnie was really wack.
Day 26, cool band name, but they was just so blah. Man I miss Jodeci.
Those chicks they look good on TV. I can watch them sing commercials all day. wait a minute they already do.

  11. 11 Fool's Gold March 26, 2008 at 3:45 am

I didn’t get to see the entire show becuase Comcast kept messing up!! I think they’re tryna trick me to paying for HD. :-\ Anyways I don’t think Mike has really gotten any bigger (he’s my fav) but they stylist keeps putting those small @$$ jackets on him! No matter what channel he’s on he has on a small @$$ jacket like he’s about to buss outta that thang! Shoot the stylist. Plus, as much as I love Mike he needs to kill the hazel contacts and the Soul Glo. It’s just time. Who is on Diddy’s style staff?? As soon as I see the show I’ll be back….lol

  12. 12 theQB March 26, 2008 at 8:03 am

Being that Qwanell was quite the sucka on the finale with the whole “talking mess” allegations, I can no longer refer to him as “Q”. I gotta stand up for all of those with that nickname, like myself. A “Q” knows how to keep his cool and not to sweat that “he said she said” stuff. He’s smitten and trying to mix business with pleasure. Dawn is trying to take care of business and not let the pleasure take the forefront.

Day 26 has vocals, they just don’t have that edge. They need one or two predominant lead singers. They can’t dance either.

DK will eat them up in the charts and sales.

I feel sorry for Donnie. He couldn’t even win on his own show. Brilliant publicity Bad Boy (sarcasm).

  13. 13 Reecie March 26, 2008 at 9:56 am

Maurice they probably couldn’t win on American Idol…but they all have great voices (I’m talking about DK specifically).

“Anyways I don’t think Mike has really gotten any bigger (he’s my fav) but they stylist keeps putting those small @$$ jackets on him! ”

lmao…now that is hilarious. He wears small jackets and he is just getting chunky. But yeah…the hazel contacts are super played out, that is so 1996.
