Jay-Z Robocalls for Obama; Russell Simmons Endorses Obama

Well what do you know…just the other day I criticized Jay-Z for not lending his voice to more positive issues, and now he is robo-calling for Sen. Barack Obama! Of course my gripes didn’t cause this change, but I must say that I am incredibly pleased. He is definitely one of the more high profile Hip Hop artists/moguls so his endorsement might stir up some enthusiasm and make some take notice. Click here to listen to his call.

Russell Simmons announced his support for Obama this week, after months on the sidelines. Of course he has more to gain by supporting Obama at this point rather than sticking his neck out on the line when he wasn’t as far ahead…however, I won’t be picky about that. I hope that this support translates into raising more awareness in the Hip Hop community.

What do you guys think of Jay-Z’s robocall? Isn’t it great for him to finally be getting involved? Do you think Russell’s support for Obama influence others to speak out?

P.S.- Today Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island vote. I’m nervous as hell for Obama, because I want him to win Texas and Ohio and end Clinton’s campaign once and for all. We’ll see if that happens though. I’m crossing my fingers.

I doesn’t really matter which democrat wins, they will have a very difficult general. The party is fractured and the policies are against the mainstream ideals of American security and democracy.

I’m predicting that Obama will win both Ohio or Texas or he will win one while Clinton wins the other one. This election have been an intense and interesting one to watch. A lot of people are beginning to pressure Hilary to bow out gracefully. I still got love for her but want Obama to win.

Jay Z and Russell S aren’t just any celebrities sogood for them.

If Obama win I’m guessing he will pick John Edward as VP.

  3. 3 Jesse March 4, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Geez, I hope not. People gotta follow their own ideas and research before just goin out 2 vote.

    But maybe people will listen?

    What about Mobb Deep?

Prodigy is an ignorant dumb a$$. Isn’t he in jail yet? A person who video tapes his young child (son) learning how to shoot a gun or his girlfriend’s stripper moves before he checks into jail…should never be taken seriously. When people like him don’t endorse Obama, I can’t help but be glad.

Anyway, people should actually do the research on candidates rather than taking the media narrative or campaign talking points at face value.

I don’t think Edwards will be VP…it will be someone with more national security experience. Hillary needs to get out NOW. She is putting out so much false information with her negative campaigning that is going to be hard to combat in the general election. People aren’t concerned about the truth these days…they just hear something and run with it. If you don’t get your news from at least a half dozen sites you will never get even close to 75% of the whole story.

I live in ohio and yesterday I received a shady anti-obama robocall where the person was talking quickly saying about obama and abortion….it says that he said his first mandate is to have the government pay for abortion etc. (playing to the highly conservative voters in ohio). (like hillary and obama do not have the same views on abortion). I wish i received the jay-z robocalls, I guess i do not live in an area hood enough.

  6. 6 ddot March 4, 2008 at 1:13 pm

John Edwards already stated that he did not want to go through being a vice pres candidate. I believe, if obama wins, he needs a person with foreign affairs experience maybe richardson, however richardson would be tough because he is mexican and the coutry wants change but i do not know if middle american can take that much change. I am already hearing stories where whites are saying the canidates dont speak to me…. However, i think the republican party might pick a woman to derail obama’s historic angle.

  7. 7 Reecie March 4, 2008 at 2:21 pm

That is crazy! I hadn’t heard that robocalls like the one lying about Obama’s views on abortion were taking place. I don’t put anything past the Clintons at this point though.

Anyway, I think he should go fo someone like Biden or maybe even Dodd for the vice president spot. If he gets a solid military guy in his corner then he is unstoppable. I don’t think there is a chance in hell that the republicans will pick a woman as vice president. They are and will forever be the “good ole boys club”. I have no idea who the Veep will be but I don’t expect it to be Romney or Huckabee.

  8. 8 killuminati March 4, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Obama’s not going to change jack ish. People need to do there research and stop being dumb. Obama’s wife is in the council on foreign relations people. But of course non of you dumbed down people know what that is. Obama is nothing but another puppet for the new world order to destroy all of us. Ron Paul is the only one for REAL CHANGE. Put that on record. Prodigy know’s whats up!

  9. 9 stallion March 4, 2008 at 3:31 pm

LOL @ Ron Paul. I’m not trying to hate but you can’t be serious about Ron Paul. Maybe Ralph Nader should be Ron Paul VP. Those two are just wasting time.

  10. 10 Jesse March 4, 2008 at 3:47 pm

LoL @ Stallion. How old are you?

Word to the wise. If you don’t like any candidate. Don’t vote!!

I don’t what Reecie means about some girlfriend stripper deal.

But whats wrong with learning how to shoot a gun? I’ve been around guns all my life.

Ron Paul is the only one who would change anything, that’s why you don’t see him in the corporate media. Why would they want anything to change? They’re fat n happy.

  11. 11 Reecie March 4, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Killuminati…if you have a point to make, try using some facts rather than calling people dumb. Plus anyone who takes pointers from Prodigy has no credibility in my book.

Jesse change what? Outlaw abortion? Give more tax cuts to the rich? What exactly is he going to do? Not a damn thing.

Anyway, about Prodigy, he videotaped his girlfriend (showing her bare a$$) and dancing for the camera before they were going to have “going away to jail sex” which ended up on the hip hop websites. There are a whole slew of reasons why I would never take anything seriously that comes out of his mouth…but that is just one of the most recent ones. Anyway…Prodigy is so irrelevant and not even worthy of discussion.

  12. 12 killuminati March 4, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Okay the fact is Reecie. Everyone believes what the coorporate media is puting out on TV. Coorporate media means the corporations (government, nwo, etc) owns and put whatever they want on your television box. They make u believe that there are 2 parties and that it’s a 3 way race between obama, clinton for dems, and mccain for republicans right now. The fact is that there is only 1 party. The party that the coorporate media wants as the president cause all 3 of them are on the same team and are only puppets. Exactly what jesse said. Do u see ron paul on tv as much as the others? Reecie can you do me a favor and just youtube Ron paul and watch his debates? He is definantly for the people. Ron Paul has more supporters than all 3 of those neo cons, but there is vote fraud. Ron Paul raised more money than any of them all from internet exposure because the internet is the only free form of media. Im calling everyone dumb because its true. We are a dumbed down nation including ME. There’s too much irrelevent information put out in the coorporate media and not enough real truth like aids being created specifically to kill blacks. Like floride being put in our water that causes diseases. Like the government smuggling in all the drugs and running the entire drug trade. Like the government was responsible for 9/11

  13. 13 ddot March 4, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Your whole thing about corporate media is not accurate since you know that the internet has destroyed and is destroying the influence of corporate media. In addition. Paul says he believes in small government and how the government should not inject it selves into the lives of people, however his district was top 10 in pork barrel projects provide by mr. paul. Ron paul supporters are basically young enthusiasts anti-establishment people, whom can be slightly militant, whom are known for over influencing the early online votes and mobile text message votes. In addition, Ron paul IS a MEMBER of the Republican party and obviously supporting the standards and sentiments of the party.

  14. 14 killuminati March 4, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Don’t know about the pork barrel projects, but what exactly is that? Thats the only thing you can disagree about ron paul? And for the young enthusiasts. Isn’t it the young that make change in the world? It starts with the young for change. Wouldnt you be militant to know that all the hard work that the young are doing isnt going to show for cause there social securities are being wiped out. By the way they are not militant. Just aggressive to get the truth heard. Thats what we have to do because we are not getting any love in the media. That just goes to show that Ron Paul is the truth. I don’t see any obama or clinton supporters fighting like Ron Paul supporters are fighting for there candidate.

  15. 15 Jesse March 4, 2008 at 5:01 pm

    Reecie

He does not want to outlaw abortion. He doesn’t think its a federal issue. People in this country forget that there are 50 states. Each state has different laws. As Paul puts it, the difficult choices, like abortion, should be dealt with on a more local level. No one law is going to solve the problems of abortion. It’s a divisive issue. I have my own views on abortion. I am not a one issue voter.

You obviously don’t know anything about his platform. Sorry. But it’s obvious.

damn this nomination thing is crazy. i wouldnt like to be in the shoes of the two Democrat nominations. This thing won’t be sought out until August. Damn. and elections are what in November? and the task of trying to keep people interested and committed to this cause for all that time? Thats no easy task. I am already bored lol. But seriously, like every politician knows, the longer such things drag on, the potential for more saucy details to come out, for people to search deeper and deeper into that past of yours looking and hoping for dirt to discredit you in every possible way. To be under all that scrutiny, I admire both Hilary and Obama. I don’t even want to talk about the Republicans because this WILL be a one horse race, but if mccain wins, i dunno i just have an inkling, all hell will break loose. people are scared of change and the unknown and this perpetuates a backwardness. Both Hiliary and Obama are about change and ending the ridiculous 8 year reign of a shitty administration. That is noble. But change won’t happen over night, things will still be the same, people will still do the same things, change will not happen in the next 5 to 10 years. Policy is not concoted and passed easily. The next president of the USA, whether it be the first female president or the first black African American president, has one hell of a HUGE task. Reigning in the economy, ending the ridiculous amount spent on military and misguided defence policy, all the while at home people are suffering, kis who have no food`to eat, the old and frail have no access to hospitals, with families kicked out of homes, the homeless, the poor, education. makes your voices heard people. im from a another country but i know whoever is in charge of your country has a mandate on what other countries do and not do. we need leadership on the global environment, we need leadership on poverty, we need leadership on . please elect a president who not only does one thing, but urges the world to also have a look at their problems. don’t elect someone (again) who is an embarrassment, a moron who cant pronounce the names of presidents, prime ministers and day to day operations of his administration.

  18. 18 MY NAME IS TOBY March 5, 2008 at 12:01 pm

Does anyone find it crazy that Obama is the 8th cousin of Dick CHeney. Al Gore and Pres. Bush are 6th cousins. John Kerry and President Bush are also 6th cousins. Oh…and this is the caraziest one of them all…Barbara Bush and George H. Bush , who are married are 6th cousins as well”Senoir”. There is no Democrat or Republican, they all on the same team. I say that to say this, these puppet candidates are just playing they role until the powers that be decide who they want to put in office to continue to push their BS agenda.

  19. 19 Asia March 8, 2008 at 6:39 am

I agree will Kiluminati when he says Obama will not bring change….atleast not the sort of change that most minorities have in mind. Both Obama and Hillary are figures of symbolic change, not literal, tangible change. Funny how people like Russel and Jigga think to endorse him now….that is trying to send out a message which will is very misleading…i.e. A BLACK MAN, A MINORITY, GET HIM IN POWER AND THINGS WILL CHANGE FOR THE MINORITIES.B/S!!! Big time. Obama will preserve the status quo, like it or not, this is for all minorities thinking his appointment changes things for them –his vice president will be white, his administration will be white, his advisers will be white. Fair enough if he gets elected but I can asure you that certain groups will have to be let down and from the looks of it, the minorities will the ones to suffer that

  20. 20 ddot March 8, 2008 at 10:16 am

“GET HIM IN POWER AND THINGS WILL CHANGE FOR THE MINORITIES.B/S”

I definitely do not think this, however i know their are some out there that do. I think the change i want, is his desire for a more open and transparent, and he has worked on bills in illinois and congress to more towards this. In addition, also a change from fear politics from the Bush Administration. But at the end of day i always say the president has no influence on my day to day life. Even Obama says change happens from the bottom up not the top down. Meaning that change starts in the home, families etc and works it ways up, not the government changing people situations with a wave of a hand. I also think that the symbolic change is necessary for tangible change. Hillary and Obama winning gives many young and even older women and minorities confidence that they can achieve anything. It even gives hope and confidence to women and people of color around the world. Futhermore, confidence, whether given by parents, role models etc, affects the achievement levels of ourselves. The reason why many black young men want to be rappers and/or athletes is due to the fact that we see many successfully black rappers and athletes at a greater rate than doctors, lawyers, wall street professionals and business owners.

Though, many groups will be let down if he wins and the “change” is not what they thought, at least many more people are engaged and understand the workings of politics than even a year ago. In addition, many impressionable youth will consciously or unconsciously will set greater dreams for what they can accomplish.

Jay-z and other are now starting to climb on the band wagon, where were they before? sitting it out and waiting to climb aboard what they perceive as the frontrunner.

“Hillary and Obama winning gives many young and even older women and minorities confidence that they can achieve anything. It even gives hope and confidence to women and people of color around the world.”

This is the reason people are migrating to one candidate or another. 90% blacks to Obama and 80% whites to Hillary shows a big party split is happening. This is destroying the Democrat party for the general election.

The Democrat party needed a candidate of substance, not just for race or gender. Its not enough to run on a 1960’s mentality of change and hope, that an old 60’s tired leftist party line.

When they try to talk any foreign policy it shows how inept they are.
