Watch & Comment: “We Are The Ones”- Another Star-Studded Barack Obama Tribute

Will.I.Am tapped a new group of celebrity friends to talk about why they are supporting Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign and set it to new music. This one doesn’t have the same emotional pull as “Yes We Can”, but it is fantastic to see how more and more people are jumping on board his campaign and starting to believe in his message. I think the most important thing to recognize is how people are using their voice. Less people are apathetic and standing silent on the sidelines and that is exactly what this country needs. “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

Appearing in the video are: Will.I.Am, Jessica Alba, Kerry Washington, Ryan Phillipe, George Lopez, John Leguizamo, Luis Guzman, Macy Gray, Tichina Arnold, Tyrese, Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, and many more. Check it out.

What do you guys think of this video? Some people have said that making a song about politics or a politician is creepy, but I have to challenge…is making a song about drugs, violence, hoe’n (for lack of a better term lol), etc. supposed to be better? Isn’t it great to hear people speaking out for a positive cause?

Listen: Keri Hilson- Get It Girl

Keri Hilson has a funky new track called “Get It Girl”. As you can probably tell Timbaland produced the track and it’s pretty hot. I like the girl’s anthem feel of the track…with Keri, Danity Kane, and Janet Jackson…it seems like we’re going to get a lot of upbeat dance tracks. I’m digging it. Click here to listen

Are you feeling this track? Is Keri ever going to release her album?

Listen: Jay-Z featuring Mary J. Blige “You’re Welcome”

Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige have a new song called “You’re Welcome”. Jay-Z’s flow and the beat don’t mesh well at all. Aside from the usual patting himself the back for being such a great rapper, he has some pretty good lyrics. I like Mary on the track, even though she sounds shaky at parts. Overall I’m underwhelmed by this one. As a side-note, has anyone seen the ticket prices for their tour? Talk about highway robbery…Prince didn’t even charge that much for concert tickets when he was on tour. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of this track? Are you willing to shell out $300 for tickets to these two in concert together?

Mini Reviews- Janet Jackson: Discipline, Erykah Badu- New Amerykah

Janet Jackson- Discipline: HOT! This is a great dance album, so much energy, and Janet’s swagger is incredible. She is back!

Erykah Badu- New Amerykah: It pains me to say this but I’m not feeling this at all on any level. I love Badu, but I can’t get with this. I get it, she is going for the Black Militant/Hip Hop consciousness thing so I’m sure people who don’t want to seem un-enlightened will be reluctant to criticize…but I really don’t give a damn. I’ll give her cool points for tackling some serious issues, but on the other hand she totally abandoned addressing more personal aspects of life. The highlight of the album to me was the only genuinely personal song “Me”. She should have tried to find some sort of balance. With that said there are a few good songs, but nothing on the level of anything on Mama’s Gun.

Perhaps if some of her songs weren’t so lazy then I could give her a half a pass, but when you have a song like “My People” that starts off promising but just turns out to be 4 minutes of her repeating “Hold on my people” it just doesn’t cut it. Think about it…this is the same person who once sang ”But everybody wanna ask me why,What good do your words do, If they can’t understand you, Don’t go talkin’ that shit Badu, Badu”. Did she just give up?
Have you guys checked out these albums? What is your take? Are there any other disgruntled Badu fans out there or are you happy she took a totally different direction?

What is Your “Stipper Song”?

I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret…there is one song that I call my “stripper song”. No…I have not and will never be a stripper, but I call it that because I think every woman has a song that makes them go “if I was ever a stripper this would be my theme song” lol. Cameo’s “Candy” is that track for me. I love old school and everything about this song makes me just want to get my groove on. Since I haven’t posted any other videos today, I’m going to throw this one up for good measure.

What is your stripper song? (Fellas I’m sure ya’ll have stripper songs too) lol.

Making the Band 4 Music: The Ladies of Danity Kane- Bad Girl & Striptease

Here is a snippet a new Danity Kane song called “Bad Girl”. If you watch the show Making the Band 4, then you might recognize this song as the one they recorded at the end of the show. I loooove this one. It’s so funky, upbeat, and bad ass. I totally feel them on the whole “Women empowerment” tip. It is nice to have someone out there singing about women being strong and self-assured and not always crying over a man and being heartbroken. This is hot and it totally captures the essence of Danity Kane (the character developed by Dawn) of a diva super heroine. I can’t wait to hear the full version. Click here to listen

Up next is “Striptease”. DK’s first album was like my getting ready to go out anthem album. Ladies you know how it is, you’re getting ready getting dolled up and trying to get your  head right and swagger tight for a night out…and this (and Bad Girl) is one of those tracks that set that kind of tone. Thumbs up. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these snips? Are you looking forward to the new Danity Kane album? With Janet Jackson and DK isn’t R&B/Pop Dance music making quite a comeback?

Listen: Trina “I Got a Thang For You” featuring Keyshia Cole

Trina has a new song “I Got a Thang For You” featuring Keyshia Cole. Stop the presses…Trina has actually made a song that isn’t based on her sexual prowess. I need to run outside and make sure pigs aren’t flying lol. Anyway, I’m shocked as all hell that I actually like this song. Keyshia was the perfect person to choose for the song and she brings a certain softness and femininity to the track. I guess this song in a backwards way validates my criticism that Trina should try rapping about more than how she twists her hips and uses her tongue because it’s a good song without all that. Maybe there is some hope for her. Click here to listen

What do you think about this track? Is anyone else happy to hear something other than superhead type confessions from Trina?

West Coast Music: Snoop Dogg & Too-Short- Life of the Party, Federation, E-40 & Lil Jon

Snoop Dogg has a new song featuring Too Short called “Life of the Party”. This song is hot! The production is crazy…classic west coast ish. (sidebar: I must be in a lenient mood because I would probably normally talk trash about this one oh well). Click here to listen

I happen to know that nobody on this site cares about Bay Area hyphy music, but that’s not going to stop me from posting a song from Federation called “New Baby Daddy”. Yeah lyrically this song is retarded, but hyphy music isn’t supposed to be intellectual. Go dumb! Click here to listen

While I’m on the subject of hyphy music, E-40 has a song with Lil Jon called “Turf Drop”. Ok, Lil Jon is annoying, but I love E-40. Oh these songs remind me of when I was a hyper young lady, but I still get hyphy…just a cuter more subdued version lol.  Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these tracks? Where are my west coast people at? Wouldn’t it be kinda nice to hear hyphy music make more of a comeback in ‘08?

The 587th remix of Trey Songz- Can’t Help But Wait (Featuring Rick Ross)

Here is yet another remix to Trey Songz’s “Can’t Help But Wait”, this time featuring Rick Ross. At least they switched up the beat, but damn how hard is it to get a new beat AND new lyrics for a NEW song? Seriously, who keeps deciding that this song needs to be remixed into the ground? The song wasn’t knock me off my feet hot to begin with! Click here to listen

How does this remix rate against the 50 other versions?

Video: Jay-Z- “I Know” starring Zoe Kravitz

Jay-Z released his video for “I Know”. Great, another song about drugs, just what the world needs. The beat is hot and Hov’s flow is hot, but I just wish he would’ve picked something more productive to rap about. And don’t give me that whole bs about the drugs are a metaphor for his music argument. Anyway, he tapped Zoe Kravitz to star in the video and she does a good job coming across as totally stoned the entire time. I’ll give him credit for having some semblance of a plot and it does have some artistic aspects to it.

What do you guys think of the video? Does the video do the song any justice?
