New Music: Jay-Z, Tyrese/Ludacris, Talib Kweli

Jay-Z has a new banger “Ain’t I”. I’m digging this track, the production is hot and I’m feeling Jay-Z’s swagger on the track. A lot of his singles lately have had a very laid back flow, but on this track he comes with a bit more intensity. The only unfortunate thing is DJ Clue screaming over the track every 15 seconds, but at least he is not as annoying as DJ Khaled. I know this is going to be on DJ Clue’s new mixtape “I Am Legend”, but all that screaming is not necessary on a track with someone on Jay-Z’s level. Click here to listen

Tyrese has a new track called “Comin To See You” featuring Ludacris. This song is kinda cool…it has a nice vibe to it. It starts off a little shaky but once it gets into a groove it gets much better. One thing I’m trying to figure out though is how saying “girl you’re just what I’m looking for a freaky little private wh0re” is supposed to be a turn-on or a compliment? lol. Ludacris was hot on the track, but of course that is to be expected. I’m still waiting for Tyrese to come out with a song that is not about sex, but I won’t hold my breath.  Click here to listen

Talib Kweli has a track produced by Kanye West called “Mama Can You Hear Me”. I really like the lyrical content of the song, it’s like a Hip Hop version of Boyz II Men’s “Mama”. I think it’s sweet to express that appreciation for his mom…so kudos for showing a softer side. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these tracks? Is Jay-Z still bringing the heat? Would you rather hear more music Tyrese or his group TGT? Isn’t it always nice when guys make a mama tribute song?

I have to disagree with you, Reecie. Jay-Z’s new song SUCKS. I thought it sound like a rejected Timbaland/Jay-Z collab from 1998. This is a watered down “Lobster and Scrimp” and “Hey Papi.”

The lyrical content was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo played. Nobody wants to listen to Jay-Z bragging about who he thinks people thinks he isn’t. Come on dawg, we know you were CEO of Def Jam and you made like $40 mil and your girl is Beyonce.

I think that’s why people like American Gangsta…rather than a whole album of Jay-Z talking about what he is or what he will be or how much he’ll be missed (The Black Album and Kingdom Come), he talked the topic that got him famous - drugs.

However, the most important thing about the whole song was DJ Clue stating that its off BLUEPRINT 3?!!!!

    WHAT?!

Blueprint 1 changed the game. Blueprint 2 was horrible. but Blueprint 3?! If “Ain’t I” is the first single, then boo to that nigga (c) Riley Freeman

Hopefully, “Ain’t I” is the Blueprint 3’s “Blue Magic”…the worst song on the album.

Sad thing is…I am not a Jay-Z hater. I loved American Gangster (even though I didn’t want to hear about drugs, it was still amazing….Diddy saved Jay-Z dying hip-hop career), and Blueprint is on of my favorite hip-hop albums ever…but “Ain’t I” sucks.

Damn, tell me how you really feel…lol. Just kidding.

But it is actually not from the Blueprint 3 (yet)…it is from DJ Clue’s new mixtape “I Am Legend” which he refers to several times. That is not to say that it is not going to be on a Blueprint 3…but obviously the caliber of a mixtape track is going to be different from an album.

I actually liked the Jay Z song. I dunno about as a single but Blueprint 3? Oh please don’t tease me…
anyways that Tyrese is so typical, it’s nothing new, but really “Freaky lil private whore”???..I wish a dude would. He’d be cussed out so quick but it’s nice to hear Luda. I love his style.
    Kweli is always cool.

Just wanted to say about the Kweli song. That beat is 2 years old. It’s from a song Kanye did for a rapper Juice from Game’s Black Wall Street. Still good though.

I’ve heard a snippet of this track all the way back in April of last year. I’ve been waiting to hear this track for a while, and after listening to it, I have to say I am very disappointed. Originally, this song was supposed to be on Timbaland’s Shock Value, but they couldn’t make the deadline for that album. But hopefully Jay-Z has some more tracks that are American Ganster caliber up his sleeve.

I agree with “thehonorable” a 100% I was gonna write exactly what he said pretty much but I had to go to class, Listen I love Jay and No one’s ever fuckin with his classics like black album, american gangster, blue print or reasonable. Or his beautiful lines like “As long as there’s drugs to be sold/ I ain’t waiting for the system to plug up these holes”….but he’s been falling off a little, I think he should stop forcing it, I hate to bring up the L word but compare that to Lil wayne’s Viva la white girl, Or new N.E.R.D, or that Soul Glo(http://www.thefader.com/podcast/issue/51) track that just came out and those shits were waaaaaaay hotter(I feel like a teacher yelling at Jay Z for not applying himself to his full potential). I think he(jay) needs to fall back like Andre 3000 and only release like 4 songs a year that are hot as opposed to random wackness, he’s totally diluting his legacy for these kids, He’s like Jordan with the 45.

By the way Blue magic was a hot song lyrically”blame oliver north Iran-contra/ I ran contraband…”, the production and hook was just totally wack and he needed to spit that with more energy, but it still was hot…this song is just hot garbage.

Honorable, you know it’s not as bad as “Lobster and Scrimp”!!! I’m mad you went back to that. The track ain’t bad and his flow is serious, much better than anything he spit between Kingdom Come and American Gangster. And to Reecie… DJ Clue will yell all over a track just like he has since the ORIGINAL Blueprint… Like Jay said, And you keep talkin over the beat like Clue!… All my Jigga fans… name that TRACK.

lol @ Riley Freeman quote (but I also really enjoy the Boondocks)

ANYWAY on another note - just because I don’t know where to else post this - what do people think about this Beyonce playing Etta James in a movie thing?

  10. 10 thehonorable February 1, 2008 at 9:21 am

Beyonce is a great entertainer and singer and dancer and very easy on the eyes, but she sucks as an actress. I think the buzz for Etta James movie will get peaked once I see a trailer.

They do kinda look alike…but was anybody feelin Beyonce’s jazz music when she played in that movie with Cuba Gooding, Jr? I was…I love an “organic” sounding Beyonce.

  11. 11 Ibra Ake February 1, 2008 at 9:31 am

She was aight in dreamgirls and she’s playing a singer(as famous as she is), how hard can that be thats like courtney love playin a crackhead.
