Who is Watching Making the Band 4? Plus New Music: MTB4, Trey Songz, Brandy/Ray J & More

 Last week or so I posted a snippet of Making the Band 4’s “Together”, but now here is the full version of the track. It actually sounds a lot better as a whole. They sound a little bit like they are still in competition and need to work on blending together more instead of trying to stand out from each other. BUT…I actually like this.  Click here to listen

UPDATE: The guys revealed the name of their group- “Day 26“. I thought Danity Kane was pretty random, but at least it was different. But ”Day 26″ is a super wack name. What were they all born on the 26th of the month or something? lol. I don’t understand how Diddy has been so tough on contestants for 3 seasons worth of bands, yet totally drops the ball when it comes to naming the groups. But then again, almost every single band name ever has been corny in some way.

Donnie from Making the Band 4 did a cover of Chris Brown’s song “With You” and I hate to say it, but I gotta give him two thumbs down. I know it sounds weird, but the barely legal Chris Brown displays so much more emotional depth and vocal capabilities in his performance of the song than Donnie does. This song comes across very corny and entirely too digitized. I know that Donnie is capable of something better than this, so we’ll see what he does next. Click here to listen

Sidebar: Who is watching the new season of Making the Band? The season premiere was a little lackluster to me, but I think there will be lots of drama in the season as a whole. Although I’m sure the hook ups and break ups will be train-wreck tv…Part of me wonders if Aubrey is going after Donnie for more camera time…there was something about her antics that almost looked staged. The most interesting part has always been watching the recording process and seeing how the groups respond to Diddy’s high standards. Anyway…who do you think will ultimately win the sales battle?

Back to the music…

Did I miss something or does Trey Songz only have two songs on his last album? I think it is totally retarded to continue remixing two songs, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that this remix of Wonder Woman is just a really late leak. He switches up the beat which draws more attention to the lyrics and his vocal performance, but I can’t exactly call this an upgrade. There was something very different and fresh about the sound of the original song and this just sounds like a beat that could’ve easily been on a Ginuwine or Playa album circa 1999. Click here to listen

I have a hard time posting Charli Baltimore’s new song “Lose It”, because I’m about 99% sure that nobody cares. However, since so few female rappers ever get radio play, I’ll post it anyway. I kind of liked her back in her Murder Inc days, but she just never managed to step out of Ja Rule’s shadows. This song is alright, but a female rapper talking about her sexual prowess is so cliche…although no more cliche than male rappers and singers like Trey Songz. Can’t say that I’m impressed by this song, but I can see it being played in a club around 10:30 as people are just starting to arrive and it’s not exactly time to get the party in full swing. Click here to listen

While we are on the subject of “sex”, “cliche” and “rapper”, Hot Dollar has a new track called “Get Naked” that so blatantly channels Snoop’s “Sensual Seduction”. Lightning does not strike twice though, as this knockoff is very second-rate. He doesn’t have the personality or swagger of Snoop to pull this off so he sounds amateur. Oh yeah and when is the last time you heard someone say “no scrubs”? lol. Click here to listen.

Brandy and her brother Ray-J have teamed up for “Another Day In Paradise”. It’s kind of interesting to hear these two link up after all these years, but the song sounds like something that could’ve been on “Never Say Never” back in 98. This song might work as an album track, but I don’t really see this working as a single. Ray J even with his lack of any real talent has been able to produce a few bangers in his day, so I think they would’ve been better off doing a club joint together instead. I’m still waiting to hear something a little more edgy and forward from Brandy. Her last album Afrodisiac was feisty and different, but this new stuff is just very safe. Click here to listen.

Edit:So apparently the Brandy/Ray-J song is really old (thanks Ryan for pointing that out)…but hey…I did this post at midnight so I’ll chop that up to being tired lol.

What do you guys think of these tracks? Can someone please tell Trey Songz to come out with a NEW song? Can Charli Baltimore make a comeback? Shouldn’t Hot Dollar have at least given Snoop another month before he totally copied his song? Is Brandy’s new material sparking your interest?

    Aight Reecie, I gotta say as much as I love your postings, this one is off on so many levels…
    First of all, my biggest issue is with you not trusting your gut-instinct. There is a reason why “Another Day in Paradise” sounds like it’s taken straight from the 90’s… it’s because it is. They even have a music video for it. lol giiiirl

    Second of all, why the hell did you post Donnie’s sorry excuse for a cover of “With You,” and then go on to say that you had a hard time posting Charli’s BANGER OF A SONG “Lose It.” Yo, I never liked Charli - with her and that sorry excuse for a red wig.. lol. The beat goes so damn hard - one of the hardest beats of 2008, and you gotta give a little lee-way on lyrics for a club song/1st single - especially when dealing with someone of Baltimore’s standards. Needless to say, I’m still a fan, just keep those eyes and ears open girl! =]

    wow this post was chock full of whack azz songs

    i never thought i can garner a whole ‘nother level of hate for a song, but Donnie has allowed me to accomplish that—- that ish was the worse— like who seriously allowed that to leak, cuz he just lost all (what little he had)credibility as a singer

    and the MTB show seems so staged, cuz Q clearly seems gay to me, and aubrey is def doing that for the spotlight (and i think donnie was her only option as he’s the only white boy on the show, and producers probabaly thought an interacial hookup would be to risque and detrimental to the groups career… all in all it just seems very fake to me. But i kinda like the fact that they getting drunk and wildin, i thinkin i saw ol boy Robert pass out in the bushes, hahahaha

    I agree with Reecie. The best part of show like Making the Band is watching the recording process. The second best part is maybe watching the hook up. At the risk of sounding like a pig it’s always fun watching girls go out on a night of the town and getting wild. I haven’t been watching the show but that girl who made that comment saying “It’s really sad when there are five girls and six boys and all the ladies are texting” became my favorite person after she made that comment. That shit was funny.

    The problem with the making of the band people is that they rely more on producer and song writers. Hopefully they are paying attention and will develope good song writting and producing skills.

    As for the songs you have posted. Since I’m not really a fan of any of the artist I think I will pass on the songs.

    ha ha…Ryan you are funny. But um yeah…the problem I had with posting Charli’s song is that not many people are really checking for her. Her song is cool, but how many people really care?

    On the other hand, people are really interested in Donnie right now. Look at the top posts, several are about MTB4…so even if his cover is remarkably wack, people still want to know what he is up to.

    Jermar…I was a little suspect on Q myself…but I’m going to say that the verdict is still out on him. I wonder what happened to Robert’s girlfriend…because he sure as hell was getting hella cozy with D. Woods who I wish would lose that wig.

    Stallion, I think Aubrey made the comment about the texting and yes that was hilarious lol.

  6. 6 Jermar January 30, 2008 at 10:28 am

    lmao yeah that wig is the worse, it looks like a disheveled mullet wig that she cocked to the side/an old salt and pepper back up dancer wig from a 90’s tour—- i guess shes tryna set a new trend like the rihanna but imma need her to just chalk that as an L and start from scratch— but she is still the hottest one in the group

    ~~~i don’t want no scrubs, a scrub is a guy who can’t get no love from me, leanin’ out the passenger’s side of his best friend’s ride, tryin to holla at me~~~
  8. 8 ryan January 30, 2008 at 12:50 pm
    Reecie girl i got you like you got us, keep us posted on the good shit and we’ll keep this shit regulated so its kept tight. And hell yeah we want to know what Donnie is up to! Them Dumbo-Ears and sorry excuse for the Game he displayed while TRYING to get at Aubrey aint cuttin it, but for some reason, IM STILL INTERESTED!
    Girl you know Puff is losing (has lost) his touch when he has to pull the reigns in on ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING GIRLS IN DK who actually KEEP PEOPLE INTERESTED, all the while letting D. Woods slide on that hideous excuse for a haircut. BITCH ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I noticed it when she was in the studio, I saw it from behind, then I was like “oh maybe it just looks bad from this angle,” and then I saw it from the side and was like “damn maybe she just can’t see all that mess when she looks straight-on into a mirror,” bitch and then I SAW THE FRONT AND FLIPPED… Girl, now there is no excuse.
    PUFF NEEDS TO PULL THE REIGNS IN ON THE ANIMAL PERCHED ON DW’S HEAD!!!!!
    Is Q the one that was trying to get with that chick or the other one. However, the song by donnie is not good. I do not like the chris brown version either. I expect the guys album to be str8, there are no guy singing groups out there and the will fill the void, so they should do okay. DK came out when the pussy cat dolls was running pop radio and i am not sure how they will do. Donnie, he has to avoid JT comparisons or his career is dead.
  10. 10 Reecie January 30, 2008 at 1:18 pm
    Well since D. Woods is on the latest cover of King Magazine with the same hairdo, it is pretty obvious that nobody has said that her hair looks pretty bad. Well…it actually doesn’t look THAT bad. I don’t know if you guys saw the season preview but when I saw the flashback of how Diddy got on D. Woods about her weight I just cringed. That was soooo disrespectful.
    Q is the one who was flirting with Dawn. I think they are kind of cute together…but 19? That is not a good look for her.
    I’m starting to think that Donnie would’ve been much better off in the band than as a solo artist. But there is still time to prove himself.
  11. 11 ddot January 30, 2008 at 1:24 pm
    But she is the one getting all the covers and spreads in magazines. I saw the cover on another site. It is dual cover one with her, one with the group. I think, This is the second time she will be in King. How old is Dawn? And how is he suspect, yet cute together…isnt that a conflict?
  12. 12 Reecie January 30, 2008 at 2:27 pm
    I’m not sure how old Dawn is. I think she is in her twenties at least.
    As far as Q being suspect yet Dawn and Q looking cute together…they aren’t mutually exclusive. Based on the show airing on Monday, it doesn’t seem like he is on the DL…but it also wouldn’t come as shock. We’ll see what happens.
  13. 13 Eb February 1, 2008 at 3:23 pm
    Yeah that has to be the record for the worst name for a group. They definitely are doing to have to explain that one. I saw the Band because I aint calling them that other mess, and danity kane on tuesday night in the city. Both groups rocked it. It was a really good show!
  14. 14 IceColdJd February 4, 2008 at 8:28 am
    Donnie’s chris brown cover was garbage. We gotta do better in 08.
