New R&B Music: Bobby Valentino, Ne-Yo, Ray L

Bobby Valentino has a track called “You’re Not Alone”. I can’t say that I really digging the production, but I still kinda like the song. One thing I’ve always loved about Bobby’s music is his lyrical content. This is another one of those “I’m a nice guy trying to be there for a nice woman” type tracks so that automatically scores cool points with me. Hey call me partial but lyrically that’s my favorite cup of tea. Click here to listen

Ne-Yo has an unreleased track called “Dream”. Before some smart ass says “this track is old”, I will point out that I’m not sure how new or old this is, only that it wasn’t on either of his albums. The production is kinda similar to “Go On Girl” so I can see why including this on his album would’ve sounded a little redundant. If his voice wasn’t so monotonous then this song would’ve been much better. He needs to learn how to sing with more emotion to make his songs come across with more intensity and sincerity. He’s a wonderful songwriter, but he falls short of conveying the beauty of the lyrics in his voice. Click here to listen

Ray L made a very very minor splash with this track “My Girl Got A Girlfriend”, but he has another track called “All I Want is Her”. The problem with him is that his voice isn’t very distinctive, so even though his music is kinda catchy and he has good production, he isn’t very memorable. If this were a single it could use a guest spot by a hot rapper to attract more buzz. Click here to listen.

What do you guys think of these new tracks? Did Bobby V get a raw deal with the non-existent promotion he received for his second album? Doesn’t Ne-Yo need to work on showing more emotion in his voice? Is anybody actually looking forward to hearing more music from Ray L?

Bobby V got dumped on, I felt there was no promotion at all for his second album in the UK. Infact I only heard it from Block Party about a few months after. Anyway, I feel like this song sounds like something out of his first album.

This Ne-Yo song isn’t all that. He’s not doin what he can do, and sort of being boring. Harsh to say to such a talented dude, but he could have made it better.

I like this Ray L song, and I do agree, he could have featured a rapper verse somewhere in there. Reminds me of a song… but I can’t remember!! Sounds like something Dr Dre would produce… :-S

    Didn’t know that
    Ne-yo sang this song
Am glad I do now,so I can add it to my collection!

I do think that Ne-yo is singing with a lot of emotion, but I may be bias because of my like for him.
But in any case he is just such a talented artist…..
An exceptional composer and he has such a unique voice.

Ne-yo is doing more than his thang to me
The BEST r and b /pop artist out their right now.
He has acomplished SOMUCH in such a short,at such a young age”.AND whoever is quit to judge him, should remember that!”
He’s not 40,he’s still maturing.and into the perfect gentleman,in my opinion.

Ne-yo seems to be very mature for his age,so people seem to often forget that he is still growing into a good artist/songwriter/producer.
    He’s still young.
Anyways Shaffer,a.k.a( Ne-yo) keep doing what you do,critisim only makes you stronger and better………
