New Music: 2 New Lil Wayne tracks, Mary J. Blige, Swizz Beatz, Twista, Chamillionaire

It just wouldn’t seem fitting to start off the New Year with anything other than two new tracks from the most prolific artist of ‘07- Lil Wayne. First up is “I’m The Truth”. There really isn’t anything new to say about Weezy that I haven’t said a dozen times over the past year, so I will just keep it simple…hot one. His production is banging as usual and his flow is nice. He’s always coming with the innovation. Click here to listen

Next up is “I’m Me”. I love his swagger on this track and he has those hot punchlines that make him one of the hottest rappers in the game. Click here to listen

Mary J. Blige has a track called “Sleep Walkin” that didn’t make the cut of her new album and I can see why. I love me some Mary, but I’m just not feeling this. Click here to listen

Swizz Beatz has a new song called “Take A Picture”. I don’t quite understand why he is still making new music. I like him as a producer and his music is moderately decent, but with the flop of his last album it just seems kind of pointless. At any rate, the sample he chose is pretty unexpected but it makes for a hot beat. When you think about the original song the lyrics to this track don’t match well at all, but overall this is kinda aight. Click here to listen

Speaking of samples, Twista sampled Luther Vandross for his new track “Only For One Night”. He uses a woman as a metaphor for the microphone and actually doesn’t totally ruin the track like I expected. This song is kinda nice…but it borders on boring/bland. Click here to listen

Chamillionaire tapped everyone and their uncle for a remix to his song “Won’t Let You Down”. If you have the patience and desire to sit through this song for 18 minutes then have a field day. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these new tracks? Is Lil Wayne set to take the top spot as the hottest rapper in 08? Are you feeling MJB’s bonus track? Should Swizz Beatz stick to producing? How do you like the softer side of Twista? Who shined the most on Chamillionaire’s mega remix?

Wayne sounding pretty good as usual.

Hopefully he drops something hot like Drought 3 or Carter 3 Sessions like last year.

Also, I think he has an official single out now.

The Carter III is scheduled to drop in February…we’ll see if that really happens.

Ummm…yeah one problem that Swizz track isn’t new, it was on HIS album. I’ve been following this site for a while now and I almost puke every time I see you post about Lil’ Wayne, you’re on the tip of the world’s most overrated rapper, I expect it for TRL MTV heads but wow…..

You guys seriously need to lighten up and get off your Hip Hop high horse. I don’t back myself into a corner of only liking one type of lyrical style or artist…that would make life too boring and doing this site completely useless. Lil Wayne has grown on me, and I judge him based on my own criteria for what I like not what someone else thinks.

The problem is, this site NEVER gets up on the hip-hop high horse. It constantly covers, and gushes over, the factory-made, radio-friendly, say-nothing rappers and singers. It COMPLETELY ignores politically conscious hip-hop, and it Almost Completely ignores mc’s and singers that are not in heavy rotation in corporate radio.

Hey, if you like Lil Wayne, that’s peachy, but for the love of the music, please broaden your scope of coverage.

Tell us about someone we HAVEN’T heard about, but should know about.

Why don’t you start a website that covers the artists you want to cover? Then you will see that you can’t please everybody. You will also find that trying to please everybody is a thankless job, because for every person to say something positive there will be another person to shit on what you are doing. Then, you will see that the best way to produce a site of any amount of quality and to stay motivated is to post things you find interesting and let that attract people who are interested in what you put out there. So when those people come along that don’t like what you are doing at least you have the comfort and satisfaction of knowing that you stayed true to what you wanted, rather than subjecting yourself to the aggravation of being bothered with things you don’t want to be. I’m being so serious…try it out for 3 months and see if truer words were ever spoken.

Regardless of how trite anyone thinks the things I cover are, I enjoy doing it and that is frankly the only thing that counts.

HMBlog has covered a wide range of artists. you will, of course, see the mainstream artists, but we’ve posted reviews from artists such as murs, pacific division, maroon 5, j. holiday (before he blew up), two pistols, and i am about to drop a review on The Cool Kids.

HMBlog no longer reviews unsigned artists, but we come across alot of music and post things we enjoy (or not) and what we think our readers will enjoy.

The Cool Kids are the truth…

That “I’m Me” by Lil Wayne is pretty old.

I can always count on you to point out how old something is lol. Oh how I wish I could be a Hip Hop Chronology guru myself…well not really.
