Whoever thought it was a good idea to mash up Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” with a country twang was so wrong lol. Although I will admit that the song has a smidge of country in it, it doesn’t have enough to make this rendition half way decent. Plus, the chick from Sugarland just can’t sing. I give this a thumbs down…waaaay down.
Alicia Keys took the polar opposite route and did a reggae twist on her single “No One”. I actually really like what she did with the song. It was hot seeing all these reggae artists that would probably never get the chance to perform on the AMAs get their shine. Not to mention the flip was totally banging. Too bad the crowd wasn’t ready it…but I enjoyed it. Upgrade!
What do you guys think? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

PS- I know I’m a day late, but I’ve been beyond swamped…I’m gonna get back on my A-game though!

My take on the AMA
It was kind of cool watching Beyonce get on country on. Granted this performance would never happen at the BET awards.
Chris Brown is a good performer but he does to much dancing to the point where he isn’t even singing. That performance could had been done with a look alike. I know he is trying to put on a great show but he is becoming to theatical. I’m sure his fans like him because of his voice.
Fergie and Nicole can sing but vocally at the AMA they had better performance.
I like that song Will.i.am performed.
Reecie - I had no idea when you posted that Alicia Keys review that the album wasn’t out yet. I notice you gave the album a good review so I went to circuit city to pick up a copy that day. I spent twenty minutes looking for it with a friend that worked at the place. When I got back home I double check your review and I notice the comment where you stated that date of when the album came out. I just wanted you to know about my funny experience about trying to buy the album. So this album made you an Alicia Keys fan.
Not a bad performance by Neyo and Rihanna. It wasn’t up to the level as Usher and Alicia Keys performing My boo but it was still good. Whenever I see Neyo dancing and cloth style I can’t help but think Usher and MJ.
Country seems to be having a great year. All the major establish artist in that type of music are releasing very successful albums.
I actually think that Beyonce putting a country spin on it had the potential to be a good idea, but the performance turned out really wack. I think the major problem was having the singers in the band sing with Beyonce…it just sounded off.
I agree about Chris Brown…he is an amazing dancer, but he happens to have a wonderful voice that he should showcase more often. Lip syncing every performance is getting really played out.
Oh and I had to remind myself that Alicia Keys’ album wasn’t out, because I was on the verge of running to the store to pick it up.
I didn’t check out the Ne-Yo and Rihanna performance…I didn’t feel like watching the entire AMAs…I had to catch up on my recorded episodes of the Women’s Murder Club lol.
I lost a lot of respect for Bey. That’s that.
If they had someone who didn’t sing with that much twang, it would have sounded fine country style.
Hmmm i thought the beyonce colab was ok… they both seem comfortable with it.. if not good it was at least fun to watch them have fun with it… you all need to open your minds and see things for what it is.. i dont think beyonce if going to remake the song with the country chick on it or anything… ( speaking the country lady she has a nice unique voice) i likede it.
As for chris brown he killed it.. im sure Usher was somewhere hatin hard.
Alicia Keys is just an ok singer to me.. she writes and produces well and is talented on the piano and looks good… if she didnt look good and couldnt write and had to depend on others to do everything she wouldnt be as big as she is…cause he vocal talent is only mediocre. And she cant danec.. she was stiff as hell i was on the floor ballin. lmao
Mary j did her things as always and got a well deserved standin O from the audience as well as myself.
Rihanna’s wack version of umbrella was just that.. “wack” i like the song she did with ne-yo though… but she has no stage presence…
Thumbs up. Both of them. AH HA HA HA, oh god, I don’t care if you don’t think it’s funny.
The Beyonce change was off, and that’s putting it nicely. That twang is wayyyy too much. Country maybe could have worked with another singer, without that much twang.
As for Alicia Keys it was great seeing Junior Reed, Chaka Demus and Pliers, and Beenie Man(where has he been?) on stage and they had a chance to perform some of their old hits. I think the exposure for reggae/dancehall is great and its a nice memory lane trip all though I’m not seeing the full connection..call me simple minded. Thanks for posting the vid because Dick Clark productions got to all the clips on You Tube by the time I tried to watch it. The performance was good, although I though the transition was a little off and Alicia Keys should be added on to the No Dancing list along with Mary and Brandy…what was that?
Here is the view from a Music Industry pro. Yes, Beyonce does a wonderful rendition on her song. The thing about good or incredible songs is that other artists wish to record or perform them as well. Sugarland had to have written permission (a license) from Beyonce or her publisher. This was not a secret that Sugarland did on their own. It appears that both the band and Beyonce enjoyed it. The level of proficiency of one artist compared to another, shall be that of one’s personal taste. God Bless record sales.
Let us not forget to thank Whitney Houston for giving us another option for an unbelievable song written and performed by Dolly Parton. That little song is: “I Will Always Love You”.
Thanks for being here!
Thank you BklynQueen’86 for recognizing those dancehall legends by their actual names… even the AMA’s didn’t give em a screen label.
Alicia’s reggae remix was hot hot hot
chaka demus & pliers! danggg. murder she wrote was the jammm back in the day.
the girl sure knows how to party. i went to her concert a few years back and she kiiiills it live. im glad to see shes still got it, cant wait to see her on tour again
Saying that Jennifer Nettles can’t sing is just stupid, you’re comparing apples with oranges.
That’s like comparing Celine Dion with Andrea Bocelli or Beyonce with Maria Callas. Get real…
