HM Listen: Jay-Z - Dead Presidents 3; Britney Spears - Let’s Go

Jay-Z - Dead Presidents III (Snippet) (listen)
I am not sure if this track will make the American Gangsta album/soundtrack creative project or if it’ll be released on a mixtape as MTV.com reported:

From MTV Mixtape Monday 11/06/06.

“D.P. III” from Presidential Invasion. “It’s ‘Dead Presidents III,’ ” Lantern explained. “Young Guru did the beat for that. It’s a joint from the vault. He had from around the Black Album time. We just cracked open the vault for a couple of joints for the mixtape. He flips the entire flow from ‘Dead Presidents,’ like, ‘Me and my conglomerate,’ he flips that flow a different way. The beat is dark, Reasonable Doubt sh–.”

The production is dark, laid-back in a Reasonable Doubt type of way. Sounds like Ski had a hand in the beat or he influenced the project. It’s hard to judge a snippet, but if Jay-Z made this during the Black Album time, then Jay-Z still has the capability to make a Reasonable Doubt. It’s kind of scary how much he sounds like he is in a 1997 state of mind. I can’t wait until we hear the full version, but this sounds incredible…

On a side note, I read that Jay-Z wants to makes a movie based off his American Gangsta CD, which is already based off of a movie. So, he wants to make a movie, based on a movie about the same topic? I heard of remakes, but they usually make those years later. And I haven’t seen American Gangsta, but you want to make your own movie when the original movie has 2 Academy Award winners - Crowe and Denzel. I’m not trying to be a hater…but does anyone else find that…umm…weird? What ever happened to the Black Book? The autobiography…?

Britney - Let’s Go (listen)
Let’s just say that the Neptunes hooked up Britney with incredible production. This beat is so hot! But, being the music critic, I am have to point out a few things:
1. Does this track not sound like something from 702? 702 released an album called “Star” and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why it did not blow up as the album was greatness…it was like a Total album with better singing and beats. In addition, there was a song called “I Still Love You” (listen) that was incredible. I would’ve broke the bank on that joint, but it didn’t catch on
2. Does this track not sound like it was made in 2003? It’s in the same vein as “I’m a Slave”
3. Does this track not sound like it would’ve been perfect for Vanessa Marquez? She was signed to the Star Trek label when they released the Clones project. What ever happened to her?

Despite this hot track, I still think Britney’s career is headed for a nosedive. I think she should wait another year to release a project. Hell, maybe she should do like Mary J Blige and release a “Mary” type of album…where she focuses on a more natural, soul-searching sound. WTF am I talking about, this is Britney….that’d never happen.

What do you think of these tracks? Does Britney still got it or do you think she should wait? What do you think of the Jay-Z track? Does it build the anticipation of the American Gangsta release? Post your comments

Lets go with American Gangsta dude, anything with Jay Z has heavy anticipation written all over it, even after the last album!

Britney song sounds like Lavish from Twista’s last album produced by the Neptunes.

After listening to it, I think the Britney song would be right up Mariah’s alley. especially her trademark falsetto and falsetto ad libs.

Ummm…so I recall and love the original Dead Pres when he goes in on that “wonderama shyt, me an my conglomerate, who shall remain anonymous, caught up in the finer shyt….live out my dreams until my heart gives out, involved with creeeeeam, you know exactly what this shyts about fuck ya’ll mean”

I mean, this is just a snippet that mixed in old verses with some new ones so i’m not gonna say its wack…i just need to hear more. But personally, the original is much better and jay’s flow and swag on the original was impeccable.

“Shyt i’m involved wit got me pins and needles, in my cerebral means the wicked is evil, thoughts that this sport will feed you” DAAAAAAMN….jay’s crazy fuh dat!

I don’t think now is a good time for Britney to release her album. She always been involve in scandal and stuff like that but it never really got in the way of her music but now her personal life is starting to interfere with that. Her album is probably banging but she can’t really promote it. Gimme more is doing well but she is to busy with her in troubles to really give it the attention it deserve.

I saw AMERICAN GANGSTER; the movie is impeccable. The storyline was written exceptionally well and I hear Frank Lucas is in the works of creating his own video game.

Britney’s song is hot! Yeah the chick has no talent, but on a pop tip with super hot production, she gets the job done. Britney is a trainwreck in her personal life, but with hot enough music, a better weave, and about 20 pounds weight loss she will be good to go. I hope that she at least gets her act together before she releases her album, because it’s hard for me to enjoy her stuff when she looks like a pig all the time.

that dead presidents 3 is alright, even though i know DP1 by heart. if he didnt base this dead presidents 3 track on the other DP tracks than it would be fire, instead of just repeating shit from dp1. but yea i would have to hear the full track to criticize it, who knows, he mite come up wit some new hot ass verse that can match dp1 on the 2nd verse or something!

    Dead President’s Pt. 1

And told me that the mo’ did it
And now it’s kosher shit is so acidic

    Shit I’m involved with
    Got me pins and needles
In my cerebral be’s the wickedest evil
Thoughts that this sport will feed you
    Peep facts
    In the game so deep
    Fiends can catch a
    Freeze off my knee cap
    Can y’all believe that
    Got the city drinkin Cristal
    We upped the fee
Rappers going broke tryin to keep up wit me
My rise to riches surprised the bitches
    Think harder
    You know this nigga
    Jay-Z Shawn Carter
G.S.ed the fuck up, Trieste the fuck up
Watch me shine like a bride, let me gets fuck up

It’s this kind of talk that make me think

Niggaz got them kinda dreams from jail
    You in the streets nigga
Make your move get your get your mil
Niggaz’ll coast in the S.L. but can’t post bail
    Niggaz’ll roast the L
But scared to throw your toast well

With the underworld dealers, carriers of mac-millers
East coast bodiers, West coast cap peelers
    Little monkey niggas turned gorillas
Stopped in the station filled up on octane
And now they not sane, and not playin

    HOW CRAZY IS THIS SONG!

    Thesis-

YES!!!! im about to go listen to that rite now! that is my song! only jay song that can almost match that is the 7 minute freestyle he did with big l in 1995 but it wasnt even about the lyrics it was about the crazy flow he had on that freestyle:

Check it out, I’m too cocky
To stop me, you gotta kill me
And when I’m gone, you can still feel me
    On the real, B
The shit is eternal, I rock the Heavens well
Even if they won’t let me in Heaven
I raise hell, till its Heaven
Recognize, the black cat with the nine lives
Get up off me, nigga, its bad luck to cross me
I’m poppin Crystal, shooting game like missiles
As projected, all ho’s affected by this style
I mack like Goldie, go back like the oldies
But the goody, pullin R&B bitches wearin hoodies
They don’t be knowin the way I be flowin
When I be goin, I be running the track like Jesse Owens

    CRAAZY!

  12. 12 J October 10, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Although I’mma closet-Britney fan, I have to say that this song should’ve been given to someone else….hmmmmm….I’m thinkin’ along the lines of Brandy, Keri Hilson, or hell…even Pharrell himself. Britney butchers the hotAzz production with her whiney-tone.

I, for one, think the production is quite modern. I own the 702 “Star” [which is, hands down, one of THE best R&B albums of the decade] & this song would’ve been a little to ’steely’ for that album. My favorite part of the song is the lil’ Pharrel choir/harmonizing segway right before the end.

Britney REALLY needs to sit-out this ‘comeback’ - which is a shame, b/c her album just might be the hottest production showcase of the year. Her personal quarrels have bled thru her career obligations to the point where there is no distinguishing b/t the two.

The production is hot of the song is hot, hot, hot though. I recommend [if its not too late] Pharrell to sell this beat to somebody who can do a whole lot more with it vocally.

LOL@ the neptunes….this is an exact slowed down version of Lavish by Twista. The drums are even exactly the same.

    djray0901-

Son, you gotta finish up that verse dunny:

    I disrupt the natural scheme
The way that you do things wit a swing and have em rockin like…
You say never you run, if ever you come
It’s never you run so fast in your life to never have won
Come on and ride the rhythm
    I be producing like jizm
Just like the gods I start with knowledge and follow with wisdom
    For greater understanding
    I’m landing blows and
Knocking sense into those that oppose me, ha
    Enticin when slicing through tracks
Your screaming, “Jesus Christ,” he’s back
And God knows he can rap
Me and L put rhythm on the map
    So give him his dap
And me, I just take mine
Gimme those, gimme this, gimme that, fuck that
You never see me stressed, in a GS
On the prize, my greedy eyes can’t see no less
    Jigga incredible
    Even my thoughts is federal
    Like kidnapping, extortion and corruption
So you know, beatin me will never come
Like a nun or tomorrow, I’m too thorough, nigga
I make moves, cause bowels to move
When I’m creeping through your hood with a thousand little dudes
Um. We’re the peace like Islam
I make your eyes rise like yeast
Surprise, I feel no fear when facing y’all
Betcha lyrics jump off the track like racing cars
Emcee’s trying to be the best
And even in dying, couldn’t be this def (death)
I see no reason to stop cheesin
Ever since L said “Throw three g’s in”
And we can get down and split the wealth
That’s when I found I could do it myself
    I get up

But cats be sayin L murdered Hov on dat! what’re your thoughts?

  15. 15 Thesis October 11, 2007 at 12:11 pm

yeah son…jay’s swag on that freestyle was real fam!

  16. 16 djray0901 October 12, 2007 at 11:49 am

yea imma have to say big l ripped him on dat one.

  17. 17 G October 13, 2007 at 9:19 am

Vanessa Marquez or Natasha Ramos hell even Keri Hilson wouldve been perfect for this song. Britneys voice just doesnt go with this beat. And this does sound like “Lavish” slowed down, he just switched a coulple of sounds.
