New Trax: LL Cool J- “New York Gangstas”; Noreaga- “Call to Heaven(Phone call to Pun)”

LL

LL Cool J- “New York Gangstas”- (dload) *(stream)

Okay, Mr. Smith is back with a new jawn where he speaks on his past run ins with some of New York’s notorious drug lords and how he almost got touched and coerced to be part of the “gangsta” life.  The song is pretty hot…production’s raw and funky.

Some people are sayin that LL got that Jay-Z swag on this track but it’s kind of backwards since LL been in the game longer.  Is LL swagga jackin or is his flow authentic?  Second and most importantly, at damn near 63 years old, why is LL resortin’ to drug tales at this stage of his ”career?” Is this a fugazi LL, a new and improved LL, or a dose of Formula 50?  Sorry to let you down ladies but LL cussin on this track…..He bout to timbaland someone up!  And who the hell cares about some cat showing you his first 8th of a key…cmon LL you talkin real lame….”only God knows what these nigguz mean to me, real talk“  If they meant that much how come we now hearing about it after 20+ years in the game fam?

This song sounds very “Hustler’s Ambition”-esque….Third verse of the song sounds very Hov-esque. What are your thoughts on this track ya’ll?

    Thesis,
Check out this lil wayne comments on having a baby… isnt this crazy.. from Vibe

” I was on tour like crazy with Cash Money, and my momma said she was bored, alone, and scared in the house by herself. She was like, ‘Why don’t you just have a baby with somebody? Just tell the little girl’s mom I’ma take care of the baby, don’t worry about that.’ I was like, ‘I don’t have nobody I like like that!’ She was like, ‘Just find somebody! You don’t like Toya?’ I was like, ‘Alright, I like her then.’ Toya was 14 when she got pregnant, and I was 15 asking 14-year-olds. Toya’s the only person that agreed outta all the ones I asked. I said that my momma wants a child. And they was like, ‘That’s your momma’s problem!’ So Toya was like, ‘Shiiit, when we due, boo?’”

I like the LL track..not my favorite, but you know.. Your post only brought back memories of summer (sigh) at the Zune Live at the BBQ concert in BK, when LL started ranting about “the monkeys over at Def Jam,” who didn’t have respect for him although he’s been in the game for so long. Sounded like a little beef with Jay when I heard it.

It is odd for him to be coming out with songs about drugs now. My hypothesis is a little Curtis influence. Talk about what you havent done, but make yourself sound harder. It’s a weird message, giving homage to drug dealers and ‘hustlers’ and still being thankful for rap saving him. He should have thrown in Mims to talk about Music being a savior (no..just kidding..please no)

As for swagger jacking Jay-Z’s flow I would say that LL is still authentic. Dude’s been around forever and manages to keep a few different styles, although I like his love raps 10x better( he represents queens, and I was raised out in Brooklyn). Pop culture, hip hop, music is all one huge dialogue, and blacks especially have been on some signifying monkey for years, from the days of the slave narratives…and while its still blatantly obvious with lyrics, the style is also part of that. I don’t know if it was intentional, but I think its part of any creative endeavor, and at this point I think most people touching on certain topics will incorporate some of the best of other rappers in their mix.

    Yay for Nore!

No words about Weezy F. Baby…

please say that show is restricted to mortal life…

    ^^^- Word up! <—(that’s so ‘89)

    BklynQueen’86-
I like what you had to say. A lot of real talk there. Bu ‘86, i’m assuming that’s the year you were born. I’m not too sure if you’re too young to remember but remember back in the day when there used to be the summer concerts in Wingate Park in Brooklyn? Those used to be live and the Italian Icy man used to be outside shavin that block of ice and mixin it with the coconut juice. lol….Damn, those were the days…..

“Pop culture, hip hop, music is all one huge dialogue, and blacks especially have been on some signifying monkey for years, from the days of the slave narratives…and while its still blatantly obvious with lyrics, the style is also part of that”

    Now, that’s dead on!

If this doesn’t solidify Jay-Z as the greatest of all time nothing does.

The former GOAT does quite a current GOAT impression.
    That speaks volumes.

Word, the Wingate Concerts are still on and poppin and Marty Markowitz shows up and says random ish…Lauryn Hill was disappointing at this year’s concert, but theyre still a good show..and perhaps one of the most orderly free shows ive seen to date (and yea..im only a 86 baby..a young’n)
