Trey Songz starts off his album with a Bun B collabo. I’m not really feeling that as an opener, but perhaps he plans on taking the R. Kelly R&B/Hip Hop fusion direction for this album. The intro transitions to “Long Gone Missin” with Trey rapping on the opening verse. I gotta give him credit for good lyrical phrasing and storytelling ability…and he sounds much better once he starts singing. I can tell from this song that this is going to be a very “young” album focusing mostly on “girl” problems, sex, and being a player.
My suspicion proves to be correct for the time being with the next song “Wonder Woman”, which is about hooking up with a chick. The production is hot and he sounds good…but I think I need to be a few years younger to take Trey seriously as a sex symbol lol.
Up next is “No Clothes On”. It doesn’t take much imagination to figure out that this song is about him thinking about a woman he just met with no clothes on. Call me a prude, but is this song really supposed to be flattering? The way Trey sings some of the parts on this song is kind of ridiculous…and it just highlights the fact that he is wasting his wonderful voice on brainless topics.
“Sex for Yo Stereo” is just as dumb as it sounds.
Just when I thought this album couldn’t get any sleazier… on “Last Time” Trey sings about breaking up with his side chick…after one last time having sex of course.
“Can’t Help But Wait” is the second single from the album and takes a much needed deviation from talking about sex. The song is just mediocre, and it’s hard to take his sentiment seriously after hearing the songs that came before this.
“Grub On” is another sexually suggestive song about Trey and his lover eating off each other. I see that Trey is trying to be R. Kelly Jr. on this song and the lyrics are actually quite clever.
“Fly Together” features Jim Jones and is about how Trey and his woman make such a fly couple. This song is decent…it could be a nice little anthem for 15-22 year olds.
“Store Run” is about Trey needing to run to the store to get some condoms so that he can sleep with a girl that he just met last week. Chick couldn’t even get a dinner and a movie before she lets a guy run up in her…damn shame lol. But really though…is he serious with this song? I’m all for contraception and protection…but whatever happened to getting to know a person and what they’re about BEFORE getting to that point? I guess that wouldn’t make for an interesting song. This is just as bad as Mya singing about her period being late and worrying that she’s pregnant.
“Missin You” ups the wackness factor with some weird digital voice singing part of the hook. However, I will say that aside from that digital thing, the song is pretty good. I like the lyrics (for once) and he actually sounds mildly sincere. The production is kinda hot…overall this song is worth a second listen.
“Role Play” is about spicing things up in the bedroom. This song isn’t as corny as I expected it to be…it’s kinda cool.
“We Should Be” switches to a more romantic vibe. Of course this song is about sex like every other song on the album, but at least there is something somewhat sentimental about the song. I was hoping that he would deliver at least one pure love song or ballad, but it doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t.
Overall…this is album is 100% about sex. Trey has a one track mind from the beginning to the end. I understand that he is trying to go for a more grown up sound and swagger this time around but he really went overboard with the content. Even R. Kelly tends to provide a sense of balance between freaky and romance…Trey doesn’t manage this at all. His lyrical content is too young and immature to appeal to an older (and by older I mean 24+) audience. If a guy tried Trey’s approach on me, I don’t know if I could contain my laughter. Maybe I expect too much from an artist or my standards are too high…but I would have to give this album a thumbs down. What happened to songs like “Just Gotta Make it” and “Gotta Go”? Trey lost all of his innocence on this album and grew up sexually without growing up mentally and emotionally. His talents were largely wasted on songs that were just too juvenille. In closing, if you are ever feeling freaky enough to want to hear an album with the same emphasis on sex as this album, I would suggest you go pick up R. Kelly’s Twelve Play or TP-2.com instead.
What do you guys think of the album? Does Trey make for a convincing sex symbol or is it just kind of ridiculous? Do you think he should’ve expanded his lyrical content or is he better off making an album all about sex?

If I recall correctly, R. Kelly did write “Grub On”… even sounds like his influence was in it. But, when I heard “Damn, I’m so hungry”… I almost broke out in laughter, ’cause I thought the song was about food. Would’ve been better that way.
I was hooked on Wonder Woman earlier this year ’cause of it’s having been produced by Danja… he did some really fine stuff with the beat, and hearing Trey’s voice over it just makes it all the more worthwile. I’d probably end up skipping past half the songs on the CD because they’re so suggestive, but would end up listening to one of them anyway just because of the beat (”Sex For Yo Stereo”, for example).
But, my favorites have to be “Wonder Woman”, “Long Gone Missin’”, “Last Time”, “Can’t Help But Wait”, and “Role Play”… here’s to Troy Taylor (and whoever else) making some more fantastic beats.
Can you please explain the difference between him and Bobby Valentino?
p.s. Missin You is fire.
Trey Songz and Bobby Valentino couldn’t be any more different. First…Trey Songz is 100% sex. Bobby Valentino is 90% romance. Trey is more suggestive and blatant with his sexual propositions whereas Bobby is much more subtle and understated.
Vocally they sound totally different and their production is on different ends of the spectrum. I take it you haven’t heard both of Bobby V’s albums to ask that question, but as a huge fan of his music (including the 20 unreleased songs I’ve heard from him) he is very different from Trey.
I meant their persona. Ive been listening to Bobby V since Blackberry Molasses, his last album was dreadful. You went in pretty hard on Trey um, no homo.
Trey Songz is that dude he takes his shirt off knowing he weighs 157, but he does not care. He has an interesting following. He simply tried something new for this album. Check out Lil Waynes comments about him which are hilarious btw maybe you will get it.

Well it’s certainly Trey’s Prerogative to not care about whether people like his music or not…this time around I fall in the not category. I actually bought his first album and kinda liked it, but I won’t be playing this one again. I’m sure someone out there will like it…I just don’t take him seriously as a sex symbol and his brand of sexiness is not even close to what I consider sexy.
This album was one of the better R&B albums I’ve listened to in awhile. I also enjoyed the production on it as well. R. Kelly, StarGate, Dre & Vidal, Bryan Michael Cox, and The Runners…
Reecie, as far as song that you consider dirty, keep in mind these lyrics are coming from a 22 year old. That’s a part of his life. The concepts are actually somewhat original if you look at them. And as far as the contraception song, at least he’s promoting it. I don’t hear many rappers and singers promoting safe sex in their songs. Good album.
I guess who will like this album boils down to personal taste. This album to ME is the equivalent of going on a first date with a guy and he asks me questions like, “when’s the last time you had sex, what’s your favorite position, do you believe in sex on the first date, what are your fantasies, where’s the craziest place you had sex, would you ever have sex in a public place, etc., etc.” That kind of talk will get him cursed out for coming at me crazy like that! So…that’s the level of raunchiness this album conveys. I might feel slightly different towards the album if every song wasn’t about sexing a woman he JUST met. I just can’t relate to that at all and to be perfectly frank I actually find it quite disgusting…so you can fault my values for preventing me from being objective enough to rate his album higher.
Bottom line is Trey Songs is not even thought about in the r&b game.. Ne-yo, usher and the rest of them little homos got it on lock.. SMH @ these idiots ever being compared to Luther, Freddie Jackson, or even Aaron Hall!
Me, Reecie, and an Aaron Hall cd=Procreation!!!
I I tuned that trey songz. I need a c.d. I can play with my girl in the car and my dudes in the car.
I only bought like 4 or 5 joints. I think im gonna pick up Kevin Michael and J Holiday. Both Fire..
I’m sorry but I will never give these young boy wanna-be r&b cats a chance. Their writing is terrible and 80% of the content is about sex. I dunno….I ain’t that old but I just can’t get down with most of these cats….give me a Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, old school Joe or Dave Hollister jawn and i’m good to go. Oh yeah, don’t forget to throw in D’Angelo’s “Brown Sugar” and Maxwell’s “Embrya.” Now those shyts right there son……thas music…..that’s timeless……those are my dudes.
Reecie and Thesis, I must say I agree with you. Did Trey just lose his virginity?!? Lol. Usually, that is the only time little boys talk about sex 24/7. Treys first cd was nice. I had it in rotation, but I cant get with this. Ya know, if one or two of your joints are like that, ok.. but Damn Gina…lol.
Keyshia Cole album was bland. The only R&B album that I got the chance to checked out and enjoyed was Macy Gray big. That finally made me happy joint was ill.
BOBBY VALENTINO is da BEST
I’m responding not to answer any one’s post specifically but more generally. I see a lot of comments about Trey’s second album “TREY DAY” being too sexual, sounding young, etc and I understand because yes, the general content of the album is sexually driven. One person said, he is 22 years old and that is a very valid point. Trey is a 22 year old male who is in an industry that promotes “sexuality”… not to say its right or wrong. It’s an opinion of why this album may have that content. Secondly, I want to point out that his first album “GOTTA MAKE IT” was full of great records that people truly slept on. It had ballads and feel good records yet nobody wanted that? The age group that keeps that album alive is about 30-40 year olds. So to judge his style or musical talent based on this album is kinda unfair. Put the two albums together and you will realize that he can be a romancer or balladeer… he can be sensitive when he sings songs he’s written to his mother, or uplifting when he sings “Gotta Make It”. The first album showed his influences from R&B greats like Aretha Franklin, Geral Levert, etc… and the second album shows his younger side and his influences from R. Kelly and others. I think we as consumers or people in general are so quick to judge others that we prefer to kill each other before we love each other. Trey Songz is one man trying to please the world and its many tastes. R Kelly isn’t that great a singer to me… but I am a fan of some of his music. I think some songs I could definitely do without and some I truly enjoy but I accept him for the type of artist he is. To add to that, R Kelly is much older than Trey and his content has truly not changed. He’s still talking about sexin someone up in some form or fashion. The point to this is… keep an open mind… enjoy the music… One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
It’s sad it seems younsters are starting to think more deeply them some of the older generation. When people say they should be cmpared to some of the old school cats it’s kind of dumb because I can guarantee none of them want to be compared, not to be disrepectful, but they’re in this music biz workin for THEMSELVES and want to make there own mark. I don’t know anyone that wants to live in someone else’s shadow. And another thing all this talk about sex is kind of silly. We all grown and the conversation is going to come up rather you’re 18 or 50, it just depends on how you are how often it does. It’s obvious Trey is 22 and is just expressing what he’s very much familar with which I’m glad because one thing I don’t like is an artist singing about something they know nothing about. Last time I checked old school artist and new ALL talk about sex in there song. We’re living in a time where things have made a major change espcially SEX. Everyone that is of some age treat is as a disease….it happens. Just because a younger person may be more blunt about it you can’t blame them because that is the time we are living in. Old school artist talked about the same thing but were just more settle about but today why beat around the bush when 14 year old girls are having children (not bashing anyone I’m just saying) From the early days of “lets get it on,” “between the sheets,” “sexually healing” to the mid 90’s of “i wanna sex u up” “stroke u up” to now with Trey’s “no clothes” it’s all SEX. I mean when Teddy P. was singing about turn of the lights i’m sure he didn’t want to read a book or watch tv with his woman right? Well as much as i LOVE that song and it’s settle approach i would be kind of upset if someone was to make a song like that today because almost like they’re insluting my intelligence because we all kow what they want to say but they don’t let themself go and just come out and say it. And i said all that to say this, “Trey Day” 5 out of 5..keep doing what you doing brotha
Personally, I love Trey Day and it is a great album. In comparison with the other albums out right now, he deserves to be at the top, and unfortunatly he is not.
According to the billboard charts, Soulja boy was number 4! Does he really deserve that. That type of music is not something that will be playing in the future, hopefully, it won’t be playing at the end of the year. I’m not hating on any other artist but speaking for Trey, his music has enough substance and core qualities that don’t get old.
About it being so sexual. I agree with the people that said thats what music is about today. Trey isn’t the only one doing it, chris brown, ne-yo, j holiday, bobby v, sammie, and whoever else, thats what they sing about. I believe Trey is on the same level, if not better than those and others that I didn’t mention.
Does Trey make a great example of a sex symbol? Yes, he has all of the qualities and some. The question is, what doesn’t make him a sex symbol and a great artist?
Trey songz trey day Good album I like it
Thanks for review
Well first of all, i can tell ur not a trey fan, b/c everybody that’s not always got something negative to say. His album was hot… in some ways better than the first, in some ways not. He was still sayin the same freaky stuff on i gotta make it but he jus said it in a better way. OOOO and ” we should be”, and “wonder woman” are the best songs on his album. one word HATER.
