Jermain Taylor Loses to Kelly Pavlik- New Middleweight Champ; Rising Star- Andre Berto

Pavlik Champ
Taylor falls

More on Story

Damn….daaaaamn……daaaaaamn.  Whoever missed this fight on Saturday missed a great one indeed as we saw the fall of Jermain Taylor to Youngstown, Ohio’s own Kelly Pavlik in a 7th Round TKO.  I won’t say this is one of the best middleweight bouts in the history of the franchise like some of the ringside announcers were sayin but it definitely put to rest those claims that Jermain is that shyt…..which, honestly, he aint..(yo Keith, speak on this son. lol)…So anyway, it was a great fight that showed both fighter’s agility, endurance and most of all, heart!!!

Taylor served Pavlik a couple mean hooks in the 2nd round which caused Pavlick to go down but Youngstown’s own said, “nah son, nah son!!!”(okay he didnt say that). Whathe did say was, “I was hurt….but I wasn’t done.”  He gets back up and stays consistent with his jab game throwing Taylor and finds openings to lay his hard-hitting right hand crosses.  It was a lethal combination of crosses on the chin and severe uppercuts that saw the fall of a champ and the crowning of another with lowly and humble roots.  Indeed, after following the story of Pavlik, he’s almost like a modern day Balboa.  The kid has a lot of heart and has always been the underdog.

Taylor admits that his 2nd round flurries caused him to expend a lot of energy that could have been conserved and that he didn’t listen to his trainers and their advice during pivotal times in the fight.  Anyway, there is a rematch clause in the contract and I’m sure boxing fans will be lined up to see if Jermain will ether himself again or rise to the occasion and send Pavlik back to Youngstown.

Who peeped the fight? What’re your thoughts on Taylor? Was he conditioned to go up against Pavlik or do you think he’s just overly hyped by the media? Do you think Pavlik has what it takes to retain the belt for years to come or was this a one hit wonder?

P.S:

The undercard match saw the battle b/w the victor, Andre Berto and the more seasoned, David Estrada, who fought the likes of Shane Mosley in the past.  Berto’s agility, speed, and powerful combos made a mockery of Estrada.  His skill and footwork were impressive and it was exciting to watch this rising star.  What’re your thoughts of Berto? Who else noticed Dame Dash at his corner? lol….what’s that about?

Andre Berto

Sup Thesis! Yo both of these fights were good, maybe two of the best of the year. I was impressed by Berto’s jab and consistancy and I was hoping Jermaine Taylor would loose, I thought B-Hop and Winky beat him… Pavlik is mad strong too, he could have middle weight on lock for a minute.. Good post dog!!!

Berto’s jab was like lightening son. There were few instances where he would do a quick combo-flurry with the jab and ya boy Estrada looked hella dazed. Berto was entertaining to watch and I see him making noise in the near future. Sheeeeit, he could give Winky some problems. real talk!

That’d be hot….good to have a fresh face in the books….Besides, Fight Night franchise is getting a lil boring each year with the same fighters. Pavlik would be a nice addition to the middleweight roster in Fight Night Round 4.

Aww man Berto was great. He reminded me of mayweather but the whole fight I felt like he was one shot away from goin down. Jermaine is a knuckle head, I like him cuz I dig his story and what he represents but he doesn’t listen to his corner. Something’s gotta change in him. Pavlik got heart but Taylor should of and could of ended it in the 2nd.

I think if Pavlik stays hungry and humble and doesn’t start buying training camps in the Poconos and what not, he’ll be aight. Did Taylor lose the hunger or is his time up? That’s what I wanna know….

I think he lost his humility. How else can a man get in the ring and not listen to the people who got you there? We’ll see if he’s hungry If he drops Kelly in the first round of the rematch lol. That mosley/ cotto fight will be crazy.

I was watching the fight again on On Demand last night and it’s so evident that Taylor wasted a lot of energy and kept falling for the 1,2s in the 6th, but especially in the 7th. Pavlik’s conditioning and heart was stronger than Taylor’s but most importantly, Pavlik’s form and skill were on point in the 7th. Ya boy worked off the jab and then connected with a cross…flush! He did this once and it dazed Taylor a lil….1,2 cross flush again and Taylor was hoppin to the ropes to hold him up. Pavlik saw the opening and left hook, right and a meeeeeeean uppercut. lol…..I think Pavlik’s overall training and heart sans the glitz of Poconos training camp helped him!!!

I hope he retains the title for a while…we need a fresh face!
What’s crazy doe is that Taylor was really trying to end it in the 2nd….he crazy? lol
