Happy Halloween: What’s Your Costume?

Hey folks! So…it’s that time of the year again…where people let loose their inhibitions and dress up in kinds of crazy, funny, scary, and freaky things. Today it’s acceptable for men to be dressed up like cheerleaders, women to dress a little sluttier, and eat an insane amount of candy. So what are your Halloween plans? Are you dressing up? Are you going out? What is your costume? I’m going to be a French Maid…yeah I know it’s not groundbreaking but it was only 20 bucks so I decided to be cliche and save money lol.

What was your best Halloween costume? What is the craziest costume you’ve seen today?

* Leave a comment with a link to a pic of you in your Halloween costume and I will update the post with everyone’s pics (only work safe pics of course lol) tomorrow!

New Music: Cassidy feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo- My Drink N My 2 Step Remix; Chris Brown/Lil Wayne, Cam’ron

Cassidy went and remixed “My Drink & My 2 Step” with Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, and Ne-Yo. Call me biased, but I love Kanye on the track…way better than Cassidy! Ne-Yo even came through a hot verse. (Sidebar: everytime I hear Ne-Yo on a track it proves my point that on his album he should’ve stuck with his own unique sound rather than trying emulate Micheal Jackson and Prince.) Will someone please bring Cassidy back down to earth. At the end of the song he says “this is one of the biggest remixes I’ve ever heard for real for real”. lol…not even close buddy. Anyways…this remix is definitely an upgrade (minus the talking promotional part at the end). Click here to listen

Chris Brown teamed up with hardest working rapper in the business Lil Wayne for “Gimmie What You Got” and I gotta say this song is HOT! I’m loving this…the production is fun, it’s a great dance track, and it’s also really cute. Chris is getting back to the appeal of his first album so I definitely expect this one to be a winner. Click here to listen

Cam’ron has a new track from his mixtape “Just Us”. This is so left field from Cam, but Cam is always left field so that’s not saying much. I actually like this song. Sure it won’t score many points with the hardcore rap fans, but lyrically he always makes laugh so I like it. I’m looking forward to hearing more from Cam’ron. He is one of the few rappers who just doesn’t give a f*&k and just comes up with these crazy nonsensical hilarious lyrics. So…at the very least I know whatever he comes out with won’t sound like everything else on the radio. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these new tracks? Is the Cassidy remix an upgrade or downgrade? How do you rate the new Chris track compared to the other songs he has released so far? Has cam’ron falling off or is it just that his music only appealing to certain people?

Let’s Make a List: The Scariest Movies/Best Horror Movies of All Time

With this being Halloween season, scary movies are a hot commodity. Personally, I love horror movies. Yeah I’m a scaredy cat, but I still can’t resist a good suspense thriller. So…I want to know…what do you guys consider the scariest/best horror movies of all time?

My list:

1) The Saw Movies- I’ve seen all 4 of these movies and I gotta say that nothing is more terrifying than the thought of a psycho serial killer kidnapping you, strapping you into a death device, and trying to save your life while the clock is ticking. Every last one of those movies was sick, but for horror movies, this is definitely as good as it gets.

2) Event Horizon- Perhaps this movie was so scary to me because I was a young buck and everything was scary to me…but I think this is really one of the most chilling movies I’ve ever seen. There was a subtle horror to it that you don’t find in a lot of the slasher flicks.

3) Nightmare on Elm Street Movies- This franchise was terrifying on every single level. Freddy Crougar terrorized people in their dreams and not too much is scarier than a killer nightmare!

4)Halloween/Friday The 13th Movies- Both of these franchises consisted of huge ogre killers who walked so slowly yet managed to always catch up to their fleeing victims. I think these movies are the equivalent of “the boogyman” for teenagers…it’s like “don’t have sex in the woods, lake, or backseat of a car or Jason will come and kill you”.

5) Dawn of the Dead- I never saw the original but the remake with Ving Rhames was pretty dog on scary. 28 Days gets an honorable mention for being along the same lines.

6) Scream- Oh come on…you may be laughing at me for including this, but Drew Barrymore being strung up in that first scene was truly horrifying!

7) The Relic- This was a sleeper hit, but with alien bugs invading a museum I was jumping out of my seat!

8 ) The Exorcist- All the bodily fluids coming out of that girl is enough to rate this one of the most gross movies ever at the very least.

 9) The Blair Witch Project- You got to be one stupid mutha f(*ker to go out in the woods and get lost to the point of getting killed by who knows what…but this is still one of the most simple yet scary movies made.

10) The Shining- Jack Nicholson played the hell out of this role…I don’t even think anyone was killed in this movie, but that doesn’t make it any less scarier!

So what movies should be added to this list? What genre of horror movies scare you the most- the ones with a serial killer, aliens, ghosts, etc?

Jay-Z - Ignorant Shit 2007 (ft. Beanie Sigel)

Jay-Z - Ignorant Shit 2007 (ft. Beanie Sigel) (listen) (Props to A Hot Mess)

Yes, American Gangster DVD Screener has leaked and you can cop it from your favorite bootlegger at your favorite barbershop. Yes, Jay-Z’s American Gangster advance album is available for illegal download at your favorite blog not named Honorable Media. Yes, Jay-Z’s “Ignorant Shit” was leaked as an unreleased “Blueprint” track back in 2001. Yes, the 2007 version of Ignorant Shit is the best Jay-Z song I heard since 2001. (Maybe because it was made in 2001, lol It was the first song made for The Black Album.l). Better than “Dirt Off Your Shoulders,” “Change Clothes,” “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Show Me What You Got,” etc. Yes, American Gangster IS Jay-Z’s best effort since the Blueprint. Yes, I love that “Hello Brooklyn” joint and that should be his next single.

Nuff said.

Please post comments of what you think of Ignorant Shit 2007. Do you think it’s the best Jay-Z song since 2001? Is Jay-Z’s American Gangster his best effort since Blueprint?

New Music: Jay-Z & Beyonce- Pray, Jay-Z & Lil Wayne- Hello Brooklyn; Bow Wow, Omarion, & Chris Brown- Slam

I have a little more Jay-Z for all the fans out there. First up is “Pray” featuring Beyonce. The song has great storytelling and Hov spits his verses effortlessly. I prefer this kind of narrative over the “I’m a hardcore drug dealer from the comfort of my plush Def Jam president office” rhymes. Bey does more speaking than singing on the track which is probably appropriate considering the vibe he is going for…but I don’t know if she has the right speaking voice for the part. Overall, this is a pretty good song. Click here to listen to a 2 minute snippet

Next Jay-Z teams up with Lil Wayne for “Hello Brooklyn”. The more I hear from Lil Wayne the more he converts me to a fan. He just brings an a great swagger and creativity to every track he spits on. This track is dope…I love the production. To me this sounds a little dirty south-ish, but Jay-Z makes it sound more Brooklyn-ish. This is a hot one. Click here to listen

I feel kind of bad for kids/teens nowadays, because their music has just lost all sense of innocence and purpose. I remember when I was growing up…we had artists like Aaliyah, Brandy, Monica, and Usher. Sure they weren’t exactly poets or profound singers, but they had music that was perfect for my pre-teen to teen age group. They talked about “sittin up in my room” having crushes, best friends, writing “four page letters”…all the stuff that teens used to do before it was all about sex, sex, sex. Now………there’s no subtlety in the music for teens. 19 year olds want to be sexpots, and the lyrical content is just awful. But anyways…that’s my rant for the day. The “best of both worlds” pairing of Omarion and Bow Wow has teamed up with Chris Brown for their new song “Slam”. This song sounds very similar to the other songs I’ve heard from them, but this one is a little better. Chris Brown definitely outshines both of them…but they have zero range in their lyrical content. This is a dance track for aimed towards the young bucks and I’m sure they won’t find any fault with it. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these tracks? Whatever happened to the cute little innocent songs Chris Brown, Omarion, and Bow Wow used to sing? Do you think the kind of music young ones listen to now is sending the wrong message? What do you think of the new Jay-Z tracks? Are you going to cop “American Gangster” on November 6th?

Thumbs Up or Down: Ashanti sings “God Bless America” at World Series

So I know this all happened last week, but I couldn’t resist another edition of thumbs up or down. Previously, we heard an on the cuff church rendition of Amazing Grace and the Star Spangled Banner from Keyshia Cole. She got mixed reviews both times…but now it’s on a to a new singer, Ashanti. I was surprised to hear that she was selected to sing “God Bless America” at the World Series, since she hasn’t exactly been known as the best singer in the world…but she actually did a pretty good job. I always thought that Ashanti was more talented than she got credit for (having seen her perform live)…but she rose to ocassion. However, since Ashanti’s voice isn’t everyone’s cup of tea…I’m curious to see what you guys think..Thumbs up or thumbs down?

P.S.- Congrats to the Red Sox for winning the World Series!

New Music: Jay-Z- No Hook, Jay-Z/Nas- Success, Cam’ron- Glitter

Jay-Z has a new track “No Hook”. I like how he incorporates lines from the movie “American Gangster” into the song to give it more of a narrative feel. Jay-Z fans should like this once. Click here to listen

Jay-Z teamed up with Nas again for the song “Success”. It seems like Jay and Nas push each other whenever they collaborate on a track…so the result is a winner. Click here to listen
Cam’ron has a new song “Glitter”. Is this the best can do after such a long hiatus? Lol…Even though this song is borderline retarded, there is something about Cam that makes you feel like he’s in on the joke so you’re laughing with him not at him. Click here to listen

While we’re on the subject of Cam…he just released a video poking fun at all the “Where’s Cam?” drama people have conjured up over the past few months to promote his new free mixtape (dropping Nov 7th).  Say what you want about Cam as a rapper…but you can’t deny this guy is pure entertainment! lol Click here to watch

What do you guys think of the new Hov tracks? With all of the songs released so far…do you think Jay-Z will pull off another classic album? Now that cam’ron has come out of hiding…has his new track redeemed his “Get a shot of my pool” video? lol

New Video: Mary J Blige- “Just Fine, New Tracks- Playaz Circle/Ludacris; Lil Wayne- Gossip; Foxy Brown

Mary J Blige is back on the music scene with a new video for her song “Just Fine”. Mary rocks over a dozen looks and looks totally fabulous! However, she really shows her age with her old school dancing lol. I love me some Mary but this isn’t her best song. This is really a top 40 single rather than a straight urban R&B and Hip Hop radio joint. However, Mary isn’t 19 years old, so her music was bound to take a more mature sound sooner or later. I like this track a lot and it’s one of those feel good songs that you would play when you’re having a really bad day or really good day. I’m looking forward to hearing what else Mary has in store.

Playaz Circle, the folks that brought us the infectious “Duffle Bag Boy”, have a new track “You Can Believe It” featuring Ludacris. I love the old school production on the track and there is something about these cats that I kinda like. Ludacris blows them out the water and can I just say that Luda has been killing it lately? I’m surprised I’m saying this, but this song is kinda hot. Click here to listen

Lil Wayne
has new track “Gossip”. The speaking intro of the song already starts this song off on a hilarious note. This song is crazy hot…the production and Weezy’s flow. Some folks say this is a low key diss to 50 Cent…but I think it qualifies to all the folks who talk greasy about Weezy. Click here to listen

Foxy Brown has a new track “Lights Go Out” featuring Kiara. The production sounds a lot like Diddy’s “Last Night” but I’m feeling it a lot. I like the Vanity 6/80s sound of the track. I know it’s not exactly hardcore Hip Hop…but I like this a lot more than everything else I’ve heard from her. Dare I say it…this is kinda hot. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these new tracks? Are you feeling Mary’s more grown up sound? Is there anybody that Ludacris doesn’t upstage on a track? Does Gossip count as a 50 diss or does he need to come harder? Would you like to see Foxy go the hard core route or the more dance track route of “Lights Go Out” with her album?

I’m not lazy It’s Just a Slow Day: New Video from Nelly-Wadsyaname, Fergie- Clumsy; New Snippet from Alicia Keys

So…none of these videos are that new, but since I didn’t post them earlier, they’re new to the site lol. Anyways…first up is Nelly’s video for “Wadsyaname”. I just have to ask, is Nelly even trying anymore? Did Nelly have us fooled all those years with catchy tunes like “EI, EI” and “Hot In Here” that he was a legitimate rapper? I don’t understand how he fell off so much. So the song isn’t THAT bad, but for a former rap superstar I just expect more. The problem with him is that his style hasn’t changed to reflect the current trends and he is making music that sounds so 7 years ago. The video is kinda low budget…the dancing is pretty corny, and I’m just disappointed in ol’ Nelly. We’ll see if he can bounce back and really hit us with another smash hit…his Hip Hop Honors performance gave me hope that there is a good rapper hiding somewhere in there.

Another video is never got around to posting is the new joint by Fergie “Clumsy”. One thing I gotta give Fergie credit for is consistently coming with something creative and original for her videos. There is always something going on in this video to keep your attention…I like. I probably wouldn’t have liked this song initially if I heard it on the radio…but the video makes me like it a lot. This one is a winner.

A new snippet from Alicia Keys’ album hit the net for her song “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”. Due to the poor quality of the sample…it’s a little hard to get a totally accurate picture of the song…but overall I kinda like it. I love that she is doing different things with her vocal range this time around and I’m glad she doesn’t off the track screaming this time around. The lyrics are great too…but it’s going to take me a while to warm up to it completely. I’m still on the fence about AK’s new stuff, since I haven’t been blown away yet. Click here to listen

What do you think about these semi-new videos? Are you feeling Alicia Keys’ song? Do you like the direction she seems to be taking with her new material? How did Nelly fall off so bad?

New Music: Chris Brown/Kanye West- Down, Chris Brown-With You, Anthony Hamilton, Wu-Tang- Take It Back

Chris Brown has a new track “Down” featuring Kanye West. I love Kanye and all but it sounds like he didn’t even try with this one lol. The production is doing way too much and is very distracting. I’m not feeling this at all. Click here to listen

On the flip side Chris Brown slows it down on ”With You”. This beat sounds almost identical to Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”…but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The lyrics are so sweet and Chris really has a wonderful voice, so this is a cute song. It’s nice to hear at least one song from him that isn’t talking about being a little tramp. Click here to listen

Anthony Hamilton has a new track from the American Gangster Soundtrack, “Do You Feel Me”. I feel like all of his music sounds exactly the same, but I still like his very throwback soulful sound. This track has a great blues-y feel to it and the lyrics are great. Click here to listen.

Another Wu-Tang track his hit the net “Take It Back”. The production is hot…but I’m really not qualified to speak on Wu too much so I’ll leave it at that. Click here to listen

What do you guys think of these new tracks? Why couldn’t Kanye and Chris Brown come up with a better track than “Down”? Isn’t it time to retire the “Irreplaceable” beat? We know that Anthony Hamilton can do the old school soul sound, but shouldn’t he step outside the box at some point? Are you excited to hear more new Wu-Tang tracks?
