New Music Videos: Yung Joc- Gettin To The Money, Lupe Fiasco- Dumb It Down

Yung Joc has a new video for his song “Gettin To The Money”. My goodness it’s too early for me to listen to this song…I can’t take this kind of rap before 10AM. But anyways…this song moves in a different direction from his first single with a more street and dirty south sound. Yung Joc looks totally ridiculous with that huge chain on and three guys standing with their backs to each other rapping is pretty corny. Aside from the somewhat catchy chorus…I doubt this will be a hit anywhere other than the South.

Lupe Fiasco has a new video for his song “Dumb It Down”. I actually really like the song and lyrically it is definitely on point. However, I think that Lupe is off the mark in thinking that his only problem is that he is too intelligent for people. I think Lupe’s problem is that he is just a little bland. Like this video for example….he could’ve stepped out of his laid back demeanor and done a parody video or something that was more visually interesting than just him standing there rapping. I’m not talking the “Read A Book” type parody…more along the lines of the parody The Roots did for “What They Do” which was smart and entertaining at the same time. Maybe he feels like he is above showing personality, but he needs more than hot lines to be major (ask Papoose).

What do you guys think of these videos? With Yung Joc’s album flopping on the charts…will this new single help him rebound? Is Lupe just too intelligent for his audience or is he missing a star power ingredient?

I’M NOT FEELING THE JOC JOINT…I THINK THATS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE WORST SONGS ON THE ALBUM.
THE LUPE’S SHYT IS THAT DEAL. THE VIDEO IS JUST FOR THE INTERNET, SO ITS KINDA CAMCORDY, BUT THE CONCEPT IS COLD AND THE LYRICS ARE HOT.

Yea it’s totally an internet vid just like the wyclef, Akon, and lil wayne song with the hook “dolla dolla bill y’all”, and yea lupe’s album was hot but his mixtapes were still better albums and more organized and well put together than his actual official album which I thought was wierd.

Thank you for the clarificaiton. I was about to be upset. Lupe is my man, but that ish was complete garbage. I like the the song, but I was literally getting tired.. black and white, no visuals etc. At least steal Kanye’s backdrops like Twista did… i mean come on!

Lu video was bland but lyrically he’s a mastermind. Maybe he wanted people to focus more on what he was trying to say than getting lost in the visuals of a video.

Sup Reecie… This song is a banga and I know you didn’t call Lupe “BLAND”!!!! Are you kidding me?? Lupe is too intelligent and that’s why he has trouble with an audience. Honest truth is most people are dumb!! Most people don’t want to think! Why do you think the most simplest songs do so well?? Becuase they are simple songs!!! Lupe, Common, Talib, Mos Def and artist like them don’t generally sell well because the consumer is too dumb be realize what’s good!!!

**Hey Reecie, I have changed my blog URL for the last time.. If ya want to update, sorry and it won’t happen again….. Also I love you!! LOL Stay up!**

I feel bad for who ever thought Lupe’s joint lacked visuals…uh..hem at least it had visuals.I mean at least he matched the video with the lyrical content and chorus one compliments the other in a sort of twisted “so true” way.Once again we need artists like Lupe to remind those seeking record deals nevertheless, expect to be exploited by record companies.Unfortunately,we all can understand how the influence of one’s own peers, race, and culture try to slow the progress of change. For example, if I take a book about the Reformation and speak about it briefly(only paraphrased) to a few of the people who are on the block. They’d look at me like “dumb it down” n%@$!. So good video and mixed reviews what more can you ask for.Free Speech(write, type, edit,or print).

With respect to Reecie sayin Lupe is bland, X-facta, i don’t think she meant that he is a bland artist. Rather, his ideas for videos, more specifically, “Dumb It Down,” was bland. At least that’s my interpretation of what she was attempting to say. She prefaced that comment by saying that she felt his lyrics and his word-play’s on point but I have to concur with R that the video was bland and it got a lil annoying after a while seeing him point to his eyes and ears and finger types and talking about airplanes n’ shyt. The bol is complex and that’s wassup but you can still flip the intricacies of the lyrics in a more multi-dimensional way than just black and white and havin some dude say “dumb it down.”

I’m sure Lupe isn’t necessarily in the game for the gwop but you know, you can still be complex and be entertaining and have some kind of outgoing persona for people to follow and embody. I dunno…..i like the song so I can’t shyt on it but I dont want to watch that video again, thats for sure….
