Terence Howard as Superhero?- War Machine

War Machine

As we jump the gun, if you don’t know already, in May 2008, IronMan, the movie, will be coming out starring Robert Downey Jr. as Mr. Tony Starks himself. Co-starring in the first movie will be none other than Terence Howard. As we will have more to say about Iron Man in the future, what’s very interesting is that Terence Howard will be cast as “War Machine,” in the Iron Man sequel.

If you followed the comic books, you’ll know that War Machine aka Lt. James Rhodes befriended Starks after Starks found his plane shot down by the Viet Cong.  A new suit was soon made by Stark Industries to battle some bad guys (lol) and Rhodes took on the responsibility side by side with Iron Man. Rhodes then became “War Machine.” As James Rhodes will be present in the first Iron Man movie in 2008, the character of “War Machine,” to be played by Terence Howard, will be present in the sequel.

I think this will be a very different role for Terence Howard as he gets into the action/superhero role. I’d be interested to see his acting could be in this role as I’ve never seen him do much outside the drama scene.  I’m glad he was chosen for the role.  As that project is several years away, we’ll just have to look on to Iron May in 2008.

What’re your thoughts of Terence Howard taking on the Superhero/action movie role? Is this a step up or down in his career?

Definiately a step up in his career. Mega Blockbuster, Summer Tentpole, should work wonders, will help make him a household name(outside of the AAC). Glad to see he’s expanding his roles more nowadays.

I wonder who else went up for the part of James Rhodes. As Rhodes was a black man, I wonder which brothas in Hollywood went up for the part. Aside from Terence Howard, who could you see playing the part of Rhodes/”War Machine?”

i’m excited to see terence get that part…i used to be a big comic book freak when i was younger…i dont read them anymore, but i go to every comic movie as if i still did…one thing about the spider man trilogy that makes it so successful is that they follow the story line of the actual comic book and the people they cast can actually act…robert downey next to terence…i can see this having a trilogy if not more…and i’ve read some of the story line, looks like they’re gonna follow the comic book and the manderin should be the villian…excuse my nerdiness

on a side note…tyrese is playing in the new transformers movie…after that movie, that should up his acting price…and i read wesley snipes is supposed to play in the thundercats movie…

I don’t know about this one. Comic book movies are coming out a dime a dozen now. Besides spiderman, the more that keep coming out are doing worse. Not to mention, being black won’t help with sales, unfortunately.

I’m riding for all the Marvel Comic movies. They all have great characters with rich story lines. I mean think about it, who would have ever guessed Venom, would come to theatres? That’s crazy.

I don’t like him and let me tell you why. I don’t know if you guys saw that 50 cent movie but personally I thought it was a pretty GOOD movie. Anyway, he made a comment, after making the movie, about how he regretted it and how it was bad. Well, he’s an asshole for saying that.

  7. 7 Stallion May 4, 2007 at 8:47 pm

I can see Will Smith playing this role bu good for Terrance Howard. Well he believe that 50 cent movie was a step down and it was for him. Not every actor are proud of all the movies they make. I’m sure a lot of people loved Armageddon but I hear most of the cast are ashamed of that movie.

Well I can see what your saying but that is not true… BLADE the Marvel character did VERY well to span 3 movies.. and Wesley Snipes was the main character… But I will say I just dont know about terrance in this role?? We will see how it comes out..but hey he might surprise me!

Wesley character, Blade, was not that major in the third film. If you play close attention they pay more detail to Jessica Biel, and the White Boy. Honestly Terrance Howard doing that 50 Cent movie, was more like 3 steps back in his career. That movie was terrible, and he should have fired his agent on that one. Him doing this film will only propel him to higher levels. The cast is great(Robert Downey, Gwyneth are great), they are staying true to the origins of the comic books, and the director Jon Favreau has directed some great films. So its a good look overall. Step up, after his step back in 50 Cent’s film.

Indeed! the setup is already primed for him to get in the suit. If any or you followed I.M. through the 70’s and 80’s Tony Stark always had a side kick to wear the suit when he and Tony had to be in 2 places at the same time. He even rolled with the Avengers when Tony stark had some personal drama and very few team members knew it was not Stark! I’m surprised I remember all that! lol

It would be tight to see Terence in the Silver & Black armor holding it down while Stark is having issues…. and since Tony and Robert Downey have had some of the same “issues” it would be a very doable script from a old school comic book fan standpoint.

Hey Stallion you’re not the only one who thinks Will Smith could have played that role. My brother didn’t agree with me however, because when we were watching the 90’s television series (it just came to Jetix) I said Will Smith could play the role and he’s like hmmm…. They could have just put Smith in a muscle suit for the film. Ice Cube is definitely and most black actors are funny guys. But I guess Smith needs a break with all the movies he’s made lately.

out of all of the great Black actors, Terence seems 2 actually fit the role of War Machine. I think if another actor (will smith) wud play the role i dont think it wud match him…..i mean he is #1 of black actors buttttttttt SuperHero….? (mabey if they made him the Green Lantern. ok fine) but i dont think he wud even be up for it seeing he turned down The Matrix role of Neo.

I’m actually super saiyan kid with a changed screen. Will Smith might be able to do Luke Cage(if they make a movie. Iron Fist could never happen because they need a chinese actor and I don’t think Jackie Chan, Jet Li, or Robin Shou will sign for it.

Hey …….. I forgot to mention that Green Lantern woule be a bad role for Will Smith. Him in a Green Latern costume would be retarded(no offense). DC is not even making any live action movies other than The Dark Knight and its possible sequels. Superman will not have any more movie because Superman Returns sucked. I liked the TV series along with Batman’s in the 90’s when I was little. I even wore a costume on Halloween for years when I was little. I no longer read DC comics but I still read Marvel. I watched Justice League up until its cancellation and watched both Batman and Superman’s TV shows when they came to Jetix but got really bored with them because they won’t show any more episodes(and I know they have more. I watched The Batman and Legion of Super Heroes until they were cancelled but I think Legion was stupid because of the abscence of ALL of Superman’s friends & foes (with the exception of Brainiac and that Imperiax resembeled Darkseid. It was also stupid that Superman did not know Brainiac, who the heck was he fighting when he was not with the Legion every one of his villains but him? That 3 year gap between seasons 1 & 2 should defintely have been a new Superman series. I watch Spider-Man and Iron Man’s show weekly because I’ve always liked Marvel. A live action Justice League will NEVER happen. A new animated film was made but I only saw one commercial for it and I don’t think it ever hit the shelves. It may have been a sequel to The Batman but I have no clue if the CW will make a new Justice League series. Like I said before the ONLY live action movie DC will do is Batman. Batman’s villains are the only ones who can make it to the big screen. The reason Superman movies are such a failure (in my opinion) is because only Lex Luthor that can make it to big screen. Can you picture Brainiac, Darkseid, Metallo, and Bizzaro on the big screen because I sure can’t. All right maybe Metallo but that’s it. Superman is the ONLY super hero whose villains I can’t imagine on the big screen. Does anyone here knoW what I was talking about half of the time? Do you guys even know what my screenname is from?

Just so you know those times are wrong. It is actually 8:41 am and I’m typing from a school computer because there’s nothing to do in class and my teacher won’t care. Sorry to bore you with details.

As I was signing off I noticed both entries are listed as being posted 3 hours ago. Maybe it has something to do with the timezone. All right see ya later.

  17. 17 Woodgateski May 12, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Actually, super saiyan 09, thats not true about DC not making anything else other than Batman. Superman has a sequel called Man of Steel, Green Lantern was green lit (ah ha ha), and Flash is in scripting stages. So I guess with Marvel making its push, DC is deciding to push back.

On topic: Terence was great. They couldn’t of found anyone better. As for him playing War Machine, taking on a Superhero role, he’ll do fine. As an actor, he has the ability to adapt to the role given to him, as it was proven with Iron Man

Could somebody please answer the questions I asked at the bottom so I know if the stuff I was talking about makes sense?I don’t want anyone to read my screenname and comments and be like huh?. Also, Woodgateski do you know about if a live action Justice League will happen? Do you even know the planned release dates for these DC films? If not it’s probably a bunch of rumors DC comics is starting up to get publicity from fans. I guess I could picture Flash and Green Latern and me and my brother and our friends might go see it or at least rent it on DVD. As for Man of Steel I doubt we’ll see that because him and our friends hated Superman Returns but I thought it was okay. and we don’t even like Superman we only saw it because my parents were going somewhere and they dropped us off at the movies. But like I said before Brainiac and Darkseid can not make it to the big screen. Metallo and Bizzaro might be able to and I want them in Man Of Steel alongside Lex Luthor. PLEASE GOD NO MORE LEX LUTHOR ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was Mercy even in the Superman movies? Wait a second was she even from the comics or was she made for TV and started appearing in the comics after like Harley Quinn?Could somebody please answer these questions because I’m really confused here. Does anyone know a movie that’s planned for summer of next year? I’ll give 3 hints 1. It’s non DC realted 2.It’s an action cartoon that is a Japanese anime, has had 3 series, had several video games, is famous and has many fans throughout America 3. My screenname
