Damn This Boy Gets Around!

The funny thing about Ray J’s romantic pairings is that it’s always hard to tell who’s lowering their standards for who. First there was Whitney Houston…international superstar who got caught up in drugs and just an embarrassing last year with the Being Bobby Brown fiasco. When I first saw them together, I just thought “eww why would he want to be with her?” But then again…why would someone so established and still beloved (despite her shortcomings) want to be with Ray-J who doesn’t seem to offer much rather than good looks? Now, just a week or so after being seen canoodling with Whitney in Vegas during All Star Weekend, he’s stepping out with Lil Kim! It’s possible that they are just overly affectionate collaborators since they are working on a song together. However, in the video below, you can clearly see them holding hands and looking like a little more than just friends. I know back in the day Lil Kim was a sex symbol, but now she’s a freak show! Her face is just terrible to look at. I don’t know what is up with this dude and how he chooses his companions, but damn nobody can accuse him of being shallow!

Big Night at the Oscars!

What an amazing night it was for Black folks at the Oscars! Jennifer Hudson took hold the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and Forrest Whitaker got the gold for Best Actor. Both of them were so humble and so touched by their awards that it was so inspirational. It’s amazing how some people accept these awards in such a cavalier nonchalant manner yet these two thespians were so grateful. More stars should be like them! Will Smith’s son, Jayden, was soooo adorable when he presented two awards…you gotta love that kid! The Dreamgirls performance was absolutely magnificent! Jennifer, Beyonce, Anika Noni Rose, and Keith Robinson all did the damn thing! That was the most emphatic performance I’ve seen Beyonce do of “Listen”…perhaps she channeled some of that Oscar disappointment into some real emotion. However, when Melissa Etheridge beat out 3 Dreamgirls songs right after such remarkable performances, it felt like one step forward and two steps back. Sure it was totally political, but damn…what a joke! I guess the Academy would rather honor a pimps and hoes song than one that showcases the talents of Black folks. Speaking of pimps and hoes…I will say that I really appreciate how Dreamgirls represented for us in such a positive way at the Oscars. This was a wonderful night for the Black History books. Congrats to all the winners and nominees!
